how to read check engine light 96 f150

my check engine light is on in my 96 f150 and i am not sure how to check it. there is nothing to plug a code reader into under the dash. thanks!!

There Is ABlack Plug And A Small Gray Plug Under The Hood By The master Cylinder. I Looked It Up And Watched A Video On Youtube On How To Do it

A 96 should have a standard OBD2 socket somewhere. The underhood stuff is pre-96.

It is a 16 pin connector within 24" of the steering wheel. Look above the gas pedal area under the dash.

i am 100% sure it is not under the dash. it is under the hood near the firewall. it does not look like the "house" connecter on pre-96. I am just going to find an obd1 adapter for ford and hook it up. i am not sure how to upload pics but i took a picture of it. but it is not under the dash. i know on my other obd1 car, i could connect the top two terminals and it would read out on the dash with blinking of the check engine light

On a 96 the OBD-II connector is directly under the left-hand edge of the glove box. It is black and has a cover on it marked "Data Link Connector"

figured it out, the salesman at oreilly auto had no clue what he was talking about. i found it under the center of the dash. it is obdII. thanks for all the help
