leave the 6 ull get another 245 k out of it. id just look at the trans the rear steering components and suspension

we have a work van with a 4.9 its got 430k they guys ran it out of oil a few times overheated it i dont know how many times the head is warped but i can go out anyday of the week n start it up n run it around the shop.

plus a 5.0 dont have the pulling power or fuel efficiency as the 4.9 if u were going to do anything to the motor id just regasket it put a new timing set oilpump n lifters

the only way id take a 300 out of my truck for a v8 it would be for a 460 big block 351s r ok but im partial to the 300 and the 302 arnt truck motors they are car motors

...and a Mustang T-5 has no towing capacity and terrible ratios for a truck tranny

The swap isn't too hard. If you have the m5r2 tranmission behind your motor now, it won't hold up to a 302, it doesn't like the 4.9l to begin with (I'm on my 3rd one!). If you have the ZF tranmission, it should hold up as long as the 302 isn't hot rodded. If you want to get a new tranmission, I personally perfer the boggs and warner t5, it is strong to begin with, yet has many upgradable components.

As for the swap, you will need motor mounts and the ECM from the doner vehicle. If you keep your stock tranny behind it, you will have to put a different flywheel with a external balancer and new clutch. If you swap to a different tranmission you will need a new crossmember and slave cylinder.

Its not extremely difficult, and its a fairly common swap. Lots of people have done it, a google search will bring up more indepth articles.

The M5R2 is okay behind a stock 300 or 302.

There are people who can break a crowbar in a sand pile.

The stock T-5 is no stronger than the Mazdog and the 1-4 ratios are much closer so you need to pull about 15% more final drive ratio to use one. Since the OD is higher by about the same 15% you gain nothing in performance or fuel economy.

m5s came stock behind 300 302s agreed with not the best trans but normal driving there is no problem t5 is ok but the zf was for 351 460 and diesel it tak ealot for a 300 or 302 to blow it maybere mess up the first n reverse syncros but they have that problem to begin with id justt keep the m5 take the rear rubber plugs out and put brass ones is so it will prevent the leaking these trans have flush the fluid and put new in slap on a new slave cylender wiler ur there n call it a day
