Can I go AOD in my 87 F150???

So I have an 87 F150 V8 with an automatic 3 speed trans that just went out a few weeks ago. I'm thinking this is a perfect opportunity to try and get some overdrive in the gas guzzler lol.

What are my options here? My friend told me that I could put one in there, but I'd have to deal with a detent cable or something.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

If'n you have a 302, find yourself a donor truck to snag all the bits and pieces. Yes, you will also have to correctly adjust the AOD's TV cable to the throttle body or it won't make it more than a mile.

If you have a 351, you have a very tough search to find a narrow span of years of a crown vic with a combo of 351/AOD as that was never offered in the trucks.

...and good luck with the AOD's 2-piece input shaft. A 351 can make pretty short work of one

The wiki is incorrect. It doesn't show the AOD in any F-series trucks, but it certainly was used in them - 85 to 93 with the 302 (but some had a E4OD). Also, the AODE was never used in the F-series trucks.

With that in mind, I think I'd want to find a better source of info.

So fix it. If you have the correct information, edit the wiki. That's how it works.

Regardless - yes, the AOD was used in Crown Vics with the 302. I have no reason to doubt the wiki there.

Next question that is important; are you 4x4?

GOOD point - if you are, the tranny has to come out of another 4x4.

My 89 has an AOD in it, and truthfully it maybe worth it to have someone set the TV cable for you with a pressure gauge (or if you have a pressure gauge, you can do it). Theres a few ways to get the TV close, but I'd have someone fine tune it with the pressure gauge. Since you'll be ripping it all apart I would HIGHLY recomend a remote transmission filter, guys over at FSB have over 260k on their AODs, and attribute it to the remote filter. I have one on mine and it did help it shift smoother, but I don't know on mileage, as mine only have 70k original on it. Might as well through a transmission cooler on it as well, the cooler off of a E-350 van seems to be all the rage these days.

Then a Bronco donor would be a no go.

My friend has a transmission from an 85 e-350, and he says it has overdrive. Will this transmission work in my truck? If I get it, will I still have to get the tv cable and stuff?
