Wholly CRAP a OEM Ford $20 truck Bed Bolt?

Okay, I've been taking apart my 01 F-150 Screw 5.4L 4x4. I was removing the bed of the truck yesterday and started to remove the 6 bolts that hold down the truck bed. Oh yeah if you think that having that truck bed spray on liner is great, don't forget that if you want to ever remove it your goint to have to cut into the spray on liner to get at those bolts. Anyway those 6 bolts are all star heads so I went to the local Advance Auto parts to get the correct bit. Well I stripped 4 so I had to cut them out and 2 came out okay. Well the one thing I dread more than taxes is calling a ford dealer here in San Antonio TX to get factory ford OEM replacment parts. So I start talking with the parts guy and ask for a quote on the 6 bolts, he pauses, I hear some music and then it comes "19.89". I thought, hey that's not bad for six bolts, then I comes "NO THATS FOR ONE BOLT". WHAT, 1 BOLT is $20 what the hell is so special about these bolts, Now if you are going to say "Quit complaining", I Say then you buy them and I'm clammering up and waiting for them in the mail. But most likely your like all the other ford owners who get a second price shock when you try to get a ford OEM part. Does this bolt maybe have some of the DNA from one of the original ford family members? Just for grins I called the local bolt shop and we matched this bolt feature for feature and they only wanted $1.25 for one bolt. Can anyone please..tell me what is soooooooo special about this bolt? Or is it that San Antonio TX get's a special order of these bolts. Crap this burns my hide, I have bought 7 fords and everytime I go for a ford OEM part this happens. Oh well, If anyone knows where I can get these ford OEM bolts cheaper I would really appreciate it

I think you should go back and cuss out the guys that sprayed your bed liner. The Line X guys that did mine removed all those bolts, and the ones on the tailgate before spraying, then installed them afterwards....no problemo.

So you were the one who took the last torx socket from the Advanced on Bab****!.......the parts dude said "the guy who just left, cursing at the Ford dealer took the last one."

Funny how this forum automatically doesn't allow you to write certain words, even if it's just a name of a street......That's BAB then a four letter word for rooster.

You know waht 4points, be careful with those sockets. Ford does this little trick of making the the star just a hair larger than what it should be. What I noticed was even though fits you most likely only going to get two or three chances at removing that nut before it strips. Also, I got my from the huebner dazavala store. The Home depot guy said its just passed the Walmart(7 miles past). I think ford has some special tools to remove these. Hey you know any reasonable(but good) paint guys here in SA?

You know if you are an honest guy, when you sell you will remember to tell the new owner...

"Oh yeah, Ford had that bed attached with 119 dollars and 34 cents worth of bolts. Now, I got on there with $7.50 worth of bolts. Happy Trials!"

dont follow you, I'm going to use the same spec bolt that was on there, just not a OEM bolt, do most repair body shops or insurance companies let you know they did the repair wit "non" OEM Parts? never had that happen.

I have to agree with 4point6, those bolts should have been removed before the liner was sprayed in. That might have helped in getting them back out. On the other hand, maybe your issue is why they didn't take them out.

S.A That's the store I meant, I guess Babkok turns into Dezavala right on that Huebner intersection.
No, actually I'm from Lowrideo, wouldn't know any good paint places over there. But I do know where all the best nudie bars are at.
