My New Daily Driver - The Whale

After owning this truck for a little over two years, I've decided it's the one I'd like to keep for the long haul. This is one of my favorite generations of the F-150, and I have this truck setup perfectly for my taste. It's exactly what I want, and I'd like to keep it for awhile. The problem? I drive about 15,000-20,000 miles a year. It's a 2013 with 66,000 miles already on the odometer, and they continue to pile on quickly. I'd really prefer if it didn't have a million miles on it by the time I have it paid off in a few years. Additionally, I've been wanting something a little better suited for my daily commute, routine errands, and toting people around.

So, in the interest of preserving the truck and soaking up some of those miles and daily wear and tear, I began to search for a second vehicle to serve as a more practical daily driver. I thought about joining the Cavalier club we seem to have formed with some of the members on this forum, but I just couldn't bring myself to drive one of those things every day. Plus, at 6'3" and 285, I don't really fit in those too well. After numerous test drives and internet searches, I finally found the right fit. And it fits perfectly, I must say. Like an old, comfortable shoe. For the last three weeks, the truck has been tucked away in the garage, and I've been rolling around in this:

2005 Mercury Grand Marquis LS - 30th Anniversary Edition
4.6L V8 (of course),
One owner, garage kept. MINT condition.
Color is Gold Ash, as in the Ash tree. It looks beige, but in the right lighting, it's actually a mint green color (sort of like the Kodiak Brown situation)

Oh, and the best part of all... 43,000 miles

I never thought I'd be excited to drive one of these, but I LOVE this thing. It's fast, roomy, and comfortable. It's like driving around on a leather couch! Since they don't make them anymore, I'm tempted to park this one in the garage and preserve it instead After three weeks of driving it, I spent a little time detailing it this weekend.

Looking forward to the miles to come!

It's a Tankury, not a whale! The whale is the 4th generation Caprice.

Very nice car! Should last many miles. And an added benefit is that other drivers will think you are a cop and get out of your way!!

Wow -- that thing looks like it's in nice shape.....

Yeah -- at your size, you probably would not like a Cavalier. I fit in it perfectly (5'7" and around 160#) but when my brother-in-law (about your size) drove it one day while it was still back in Minnesota I looked in my rearview mirror and seriously thought I might need to break out a can opener to get him out of that thing.....

Judging from that steering wheel that's got to be an early '60's Buick or Oldsmobile.....???

Years ago on my interstate commute I remember an old man who drove a Crown Vic everyday.
He had two dark baseball caps, one on each side of the rear deck.
And on the middle of the dash a big dark blue coffee mug.
I was always half asleep at 6am, I'd spot the vehicle and slow down he'd go by and I'd yell , "DOH!"

Every morning....."DOH!"

I always envy you southern guys, only down there can you find a car that old (and older) that looks that nice. That thing would be a bucket o' rust up here in MA, too much d*** salt on the roads. Congrats on the new ride!

The only road salt we get down here is at high tide from the Gulf of Mexico! Salt water covers the road in some spots.

Go off the road and you're in 3 to 4 ft easily!!
