Post F150 Towing Capacity?

How do I find out my towing capacity on my new F150?

Here are the specifics:
2000 F150 short bed, 4X2, V8 5.4L engine with Over drive, automatic, extended cab, trailer towing package with Heavy Duty shocks, 4 wheel ABS.

Need to know the basic towing capacity so I can decide if I can buy and tow a 25 ft. Sunnybrook 5th wheel that weights about 5,600 pounds.

Thanks for any and all info.

FLYTYER -I have a '98, with the same equip. as you show. I have been towing a 22ft 5th, for 1-1/2 years. Mine weighs abt 6000 lbs (loaded). It's tough to keep in O.D. unless you have a good tailwind. Have towed from Vancouver Isld. to S. Calif & Ariz. on I5 - over Grants pass & frm Bakersfield over hills to Mojavie then S. on I15 & on out to P.S. so - over 4000ft. Sucks gas (as expected) slow in headwinds - but no probs.
You should be able to haul abt. 7000 to 8000 lbs. Check your OEM tires though - if they suck - like mine (Firestone P235/16) you might want to get tires with heavier sidewalls.
Keep Haul'in

Oh man you have plenty of room for a 5600 pound 25 footer. I do not have the numbers right in front of me but if I remeber the Max trailer size was around 7800 pounds 60 square foot frontage limit for a Super Cab so yours ? ..... And with it being a fifth wheel you are good to go with the weight distribution. Get a copy of the Towing Guide at your Ford dealer it explains all the stuff. You should have a 6300 GVWR or more on the truck? So you will need to weight it and watch the stuff in the truck as far as load with the trailer on with whatever that number is in mind. I will look it up for you and post later whan I get a chance.

FLYTYER,

Nice truck! A member here by the name of Dustoff has the same truck, except his 5.4l is rated at 160hp and a towing capacity of 1,000lbs.

Question

Hi. I just posted a new topic in Other Aftermarket, about adding a fifth wheel to my truck (for an aluminum goose-neck horse trailer). My questions:

1) Would it hurt the resale value? People might think it was used as a truck.

2) Could it be unmodded?
Thanks

Hey FLYTYER,
I have the exact same set-up, but have the Lariat (17 inch tires). In my owners manual it says, the 5.4 liter with the 3.55 rear end and 16 inch tires (WS, XL,XLT) providing you didn't change the size. Maximum GCWR (12,000 Ibs.) and maximum trailer weight (7,300 Ibs.).
I'm not quite sure on the 17 inch, 5.4 liter, 3.55 rear. They just show the table in the 4x4 automatic section. Maximum GCWR (12,500 Ibs) and maximum trailer weight (7,400 Ibs). This sounds about right though. Either way, you should have plenty to pull.

Welcome Aboard.... this is a great site!

He would lose (need to deduct) 500 pounds max trailer towing rating for the change from stock or equivelent to 255/70 R 16's (or any 30.1 inch tire) to the 17 inch 265/70 R 17's (or any 31.6 inch tire).

Thank Yu to everyone who replied.

Given the extreme positive responses that all of you have given me regarding my question about my F150 towing capacity, I have decided to go ahead and buy the 5th wheel (and the wife is very happy!).

Thanks again for all your help.

Cool

Pulling a 5th wheel with a Short-Bed will require a special hitch that will let your trailer slide back when manuevering in tight places. Make sure you get one or you'll risk a collision between the truck's cab and the front of the fifth wheel!
Good luck!
