So where do you live J-C? too bad its not close because i would love to have a drag off...heh, and heck i will even pull a 5K trailer to make it even ;-)(sorry had to throw that in) I will agree the smell is something i could do without but its not a problem unless you drive with your doors open(windows down is not an issue) as far as the noise goes between the tires, roadnoise, and the stereo i have to listen to even hear the motor. Also got to love the consistant 18.5 MPG.

Yeah - right...
Your 5k trailer would pretty much even it out. My little trailer is only 12.1k
Come on down to Yuma, AZ.

Question

SDF250-mn: I'm fixing to order a 2000 F250 diesel. I can't find the mpg figures anywhere but would much rather have input from someone actually driving one. Also, I've heard that the superchip can garantee about a 3mpg increase!!?? Another question, do you know if a performance muffler can be installed to tone down that clatter-clatter sound??? in your sig, does PTO stand for power take off??
Almost forgot: I had my 97 rustproofed when I ordered it. Is that something to consider with the F250 too???

Tina, I have overall been averaging about 16MPG. Its low because i do alot of stop and go city driving. One place i drive 2-3 times a week, mostly interstate(i average about 73 MPH) i get 18.5 MPG and it is a mildly hilly area. I am going to chip the truck soon i hope and if my '97 F150 is any clue i should see a mileage increase in the PSD too. Yes PTO is for power take off, the dealer i use pretty much gets 2 trucks in...stripped down XL models and loaded XLTs. So if you want a good deal right off the lot let me know, their sticker price is also about 3K off most every other dealer i have seen. Putting different mufflers on really doesn't quiet the rattling...the reason being that the noise is in the front of the truck(bad for drive throughs..heh). The turbo actually tends to even out the exhaust noise anyway.

J-C lets meet in Nebraska...nice and flat, would be a great testing ground for us...heh and then we can swing through Colorado to do some good old hill climbing ;-)

SDF250: thanks for the info. I'm getting the PTO too but I'm ordering the truck. The ones on the lot are never quite like what I want!! What about rustproofing though??? Ziebart maybe??

Pastmaster: I'm getting the diesel upgrade for $3910. That's invoice price!!

Tina, that seems like a good price. Wonder what the 4.5 Liter V6 diesel option costs?

Question

~Tina--

Are you ordering your truck? I could live with that. I wonder if the price will change over the next 2-3 years, so that I can afford a new F-250 4x4.....

Thumbs up

Pastmaster: yes, I will be ordering before the end of the year. There is a pkg (60D) that allows you to get cab steps, privacy glass, sliding rear window, AM-FM-CD-Cassette, OWL 265/75/16 tires for FREE (if ordered before 31 DEC 99) on the XLT diesel 6speed It's an offer I can't refuse Plus I also found that I can get Captains Chairs for free too. The options that I'm having to pay for are Diesel, towing pkg, class IV hitch, power mirrors and limited slip 3.73 axle. I've got one dealer down to $28837 (about $29750 w/tax and tags) That's MUCH better than the stickers I've seen on the trucks on the lot

Obviously from the price standpoint the truck is a 2wd. That is too good of a deal to pass up. I am still deciding myself what to do. I looked at a Crewcab 4x4 diesel here and it had factory trailer package, but it only had the 4-prong trailer connector. Is that the way they are on the Superduty?

Pastmaster: the tow pkg on the F250 gives you the 7 pin wiring, 110 amp alternator and a front stabilizer bar. Otherwise the truck comes with the 4 pin wiring. And yes, the one I'm ordering is 4x2. With the diesel, I don't really need any extra "humph" for what my normal driving incounters
