Want your black plastic to look NEW????
Thanks to a buddy of mine for finding this out, if you want your plastic to look new again (mirrors, doorhandles, wiper panel,...etc) rub peanut butter on the plastic and then wipe away with a dry cloth. Looks great and smells great too haha. You really can't smell it afterwards, just a little pun .

While I understand you've had decent luck with it, it's far from permanent and you'll find yourself slathering Skippy on it frequently to keep it looking good...
The only permanent thing is replacement of the plastic piece but, even better, try a product like Black Wow (which I use in my detail business on client vehicles). Better yet, when it rains, you won't have peanut oil running down your vehicle...
It's a temp fix but, for something more permanent, it'd be better to avoid Jif.

Wonder if jelly can be used for tire shine? If so, 2/3 of the way to a PBJ!
Sorry - couldn't resist.
