F250 with the 5.4 gas motor any issues??
I am looking at upgraging from 04 F150 to a F250SD with a 5.4. I have been driving the 5.4 for a long time and I am familiar with the motor from a mechanical stand point but just want some more opinions. I have had many issues with the half ton and I just do not think it is built heavy enough to handle being used like a real truck. I do not do allot of heavy hauling but it is a farm truck and get used like one. I have asked around and some say it is fine go for it and others say stay away it is way under powered. I do not care for diesels much and mave not had much dealings with them other than in tractors.
I am just looking for opinions or horror storys with the 5.4 gas in the F250SD

I just joined up, and a fellow f250 5.4 driver. Figured this would be a great thread to put my two cents in...
I'm driving a 2004 with a 2003 model (heads have newer plug depth design) engine. So I'm running a 16 valve in this big boy. It really doesn't matter what I have done to it or will do to it, as far as horse power goes this is the wrong engine to have in a 3/4 ton. However I can live with everything else, as to me everything else is a pro. The lack of HP is my only con with this engine. Torque is great. You have to remember that engines have come a long way from the 70's and 80's. Yes the 5.4 displacement is on the small side for a 250 but it would also out perform a stock 351 from the 70's and 80's. Possibly even as much factory torque as a factory FE block from the 60's and 70's.
I took my rig up in the mountains for a real test. I wasn't nice to it and was kind of scared to tell the truth. "Will this truck I got be gutless up here too"? Not even close. If you find your self a 4 wheel drive f250 5.4 you will still find many great things about it! My truck did very well and I was very pleased. It was geared just fine, I loved having a straight axle vs ifs on the 150's, and the weight of the 3/4 ton has it's pros when using 4 wheel drive at times.
Look, I had a 93 full size Bronco, a 73 Ranger with a built up 390, and I went from a run down 1980 4x4 chevy luv to this rig. I know I'm not gonna win races but you will learn to value what the f250 can do for you even if it's running a 5.4.

The difference between the two in hp and torque is not impressive enough for me to care. Not being rude man, I'm just saying cause I own one and I'm running a cold air system and my engine is running excellent from good preventative maintenance. It gets the job done just fine. Also, my MPG if I'm easy on it has been as high as 16 point whatever I calculated.
