thats right guys, im picking up my 5.9 this weekend and will start tearing my 01 apart at the end of this month. she's been a great truck, and its time for some one-ton running gear and way more power. but hell there's nothing wrong with the body of my baby, so i figure a swap and buildup is the perfect thing to do.

ill be keeping a whole write-up on the build, as well as pictures and whatnot right here. if anyone has any questions or comments, maybe even concerns or things to look out for in the process, i'd be more than happy to hear them.

Why not a PowerStroke? I would think that it would be easier to put a Ford Diesel in to a ford???? just wondering. Plus there are already a couple of write ups from peope that have already dropped them in F-150s (I could be thinking of a V10 swap??)

I'd check the weight VS the rating of your front springs

haha yea, that diesel weighs a million pounds basically. we've finally founs the right springs to hold it up.

 

the powerstrokes wiring is a beast. wrong voltage to one of the hundred wires will cause problems. the 12 valve cummins needs 10 wires to operate. none of the hassle. plus the PSD is a bigger, heavier motor. trust me, being a ford man, that was my first choice. but after doing the research, the cummins is better for this swap.

also, i considered the V10 swap. i saw that thread and it fit beautifully. just picked the diesel over it. no real preference there.

Nice looking truck. I really like the color scheme you have going there!

As for motors, If I would stick a diesel in my truck I would choose the Duramax. That is one bad *** motor!

I'm guessing a Cummings is easier and cheaper to come by though.

 

haha yea im loving your choice of color scheme as well. and as far as duramax goes, i didnt really look into them. being a ford guy, all you ever concentrate on is the bad things that you hear about the "other guys" so when it came time to pick an engine, duracrap was the first out.

I would agree with loganskinner, Duramax would be the first out, I know chevy guys who have told me if they ever needed a diesel they would by a ford. who knows tomato/tomaato right.

 

ever seen a PSD or a Duramax connecting rod next to one of a cummins? then you'll know why people who are serious about big time power choose them. and getting power out of them is way cheaper and they seem to never die?? simplicity i guess.

well the transmission thats mated to that motor right now is a 47RE auto. its not a bad transmission for a stock motor, but i dont plan on keeping this one anywhere near stock so its got to go. ive been looking around and i still havent narrowed down too many choices. im going to end up leaving it on there for a few months because at the moment we still have no idea what problems or bugs we're going to run into with the swap. so once i get it in there and all the mounting and clearance issues taken care of, its go time for performance parts.
