XLT vs. STX

XLT vs. STX
This may sound like a rather useless questions but I am going to ask anyway.
What is the difference in trim levels when it comes to the difference between XLT and STX. I have always assumed that STX was a step above an XLT.
So far every STX I have ever seen hasn't been as nice as my XLT. Did my wife really get it right when I got my o6 supercab for christmas or is my understanding wrong. Don't take this the wrong way I LOVE my truck.
I am just a bit currious.
My truck is an 06 supercab XLT, 5.4 3V, 4x2, 3.55 limited slip, towing packege(including transmittion cooler), linex bed liner, and factory sirrius.

I think that depends on how you look at it, but in general the XLT is higher end than the STX. The STX is a step up when it comes to body options IMO- color matched bumpers and better factory wheels, but it's only availabe with the 4.6L. The XLT however has power windows and locks standard with the option of keyless entry, power seats, leather, etc. It seems to me that most of the standard features on a Lariat and some on the FX4 are now available options on the XLT.

General hierachy of trim packages:
1-XL (base model)
2-STX (mostly exterior upgrades, 5.4L not avail.)
3-XLT (middle of the pack, most popular package with the most options avail.)
4-FX4 (Exterior/interior upgrades, like painted bumpers and flowthrough console with slightly upgraded suspension/wheels and skidplates, with off-roading in mind)
5-Lariat (All leather inside with many many options(most std) to choose from, upgraded displays, all two tone beige paint, 5.4L std., built with comfort in mind
6-King Ranch (just the creme of the crop)
7-Lincoln Mark LT (bling-bling)
Basically, if you want to build your own pickup with a lot of options to choose from, Ford does deliver.

STX stands for street package. XLT is the higher trim because it comes with power windows/locks. In 06 you can add that to the stx as option.
I bought stx because I liked the exterior chromeless look. (besides the wheels). Also it was quite a bit cheaper than the xlt so it fit the budjet.
Fog lights are optional weather it be Stx or Xlt.

The difference? More than 10,000 bucks
The difference between my STX with Michelin tires, carpet (not all STX come with carpet) sliding rear window and fog lights from the cheapest XLT they had on the lot was somewhere in the close vicinity of 12,000 bucks. Now that I have XLT power mirrors, power seats, leather, power locks and Powercode alarm, etc. I have the XLT for the STX price tag.
Really it's all about the money. If they offered the XLT for 1000-2000 bucks more than the STX it would be a bargain. But the STX is often put on sale with huge discounts so it can be a much better deal.
If you are paying sticker, the STX makes no sense to buy.
