TFLTruck: 2016 EcoBoost V8 Raptor
Quote:
Now, a TFLtruck source says that the next Raptor will use an EcoBoost V8. Sure, using an upgraded version of the existing 3.5L V6 EcoBoost would be convenient, but it would not have the outrageous factor that Raptor is all about. The twin-turbo V8 will likely displace 5.0 liters (or a little more) and be capable of close to 500 horsepower in Raptor trim. A blown Coyote! That sounds more like it. Make the truck bigger, faster, and (likely) more efficient. That should keep the customers coming.

Now, you want to make a Power Wagon competitor, then that's a different story.

Which engine costs the most?
Which makes the most HP?
Which makes the most torque?
If the answer to all 3 is the same, then that's your top of the line engine.
Seriously though, you didn't know the 6.2L was considered the top dog in the F150?

Well it's above the EB
A ecoboosted V8 would be nice for the Raptor, but I'd still rather have a supercharger. 'Twould still be great news though, if/when it gets officially confirmed. I'd want/expect more than 500 HP out of an EB V8 though.

Personally I'd like to see one of these in the Superduty.
My uneducated thought process goes like this (feel free to give me some learning if needed):
Just my $0.02.

Towing with my current Ecoboost is great but we'd like to move up to a Fifth wheel. The F-150's limitations on payload make it a bit tough to find a 5ver floorplan we like and stay inside the limits. I'd also like to "future proof" the truck in case we decide at some point to get an even heavier 5ver w.r.t pin weight.
From reading the forums, the right vehicle for this is a diesel Superduty. However my daily commute is generally only 12 miles in traffic and that doesn't sound like it is conducive to treating the diesel engine well.
A V8 Ecoboost seems like it would be the best balance of getting torque like a diesel and yet being OK with that short run time.
That said, I also think it would be a great engine for those looking for the V8 sound in the F-150 with the output of the twin turbos. From reading the forums, the right vehicle for this is a diesel Superduty. What engine does today's top-of-the-line F-150 Limited have? 3.5 EcoBoost V6.
What engine does today's Raptor have? 6.2 V8.
What engine did Ford say in the 2015 Baja Testing Video was the perfect egine for the Baja? 2.7 EcoBoost V6.
What engine did Doug Scott tell the NY Times yesterday may be better for frequent towers? 5.0 V8.
The engine choices are not as cut and dry as they used to be.

Before, the 5.4 easily beat the 4.6 hands down, and same for 4.6 or the 4.2.

Yeah that would be awesome to set the truck up one of two ways. 1 package would allow it fly through the desert like it already does, and another package would set it up to compete with the Power Wagon with a SFA. I don't live near a desert. I want a truck to crawl over rocks, cross streams, go up and down steep hills, through mud, etc. A lot of people would buy a package with a solid front axle. Just think how many people would pass on a Jeep if they could set the Raptor up to do the same thing. You could drive it on the trails on the weekend and take it to the office Monday morning.
