Updated Ford F-150 will get new front end to go with diesel engine
Changes in front appear to be substantial based on the amount of camouflage covering everything from the firewall forward. From what little is visible, the grille is in for some major updates. It's hard to tell, but it looks like the three-bar arrangement is on its way out, at least in its current form, to be replaced by something with a larger piece running across the center and small ribs above and below. Based on camo placement, changes are also in store for the headlights, although these tea leaves are even more difficult to read.
Changes to the hood and front bumper are far more modest, if there are even changes at all. The stronger lines on the hood match those of the current truck, although the more medial details aren't visible here. That could be an effect of the camo, though. As for the bumper, aside from the design of the obscured fog lights, it looks more or less unchanged. The big, central intake and its details are still visible, but we can't see whether the current truck's tow hooks will continue in place.

The '99 F150 got a new front clip and uprated 5.4L.
The '06 F150 got a new bumper and the 6.5' bed.
With all that said, the update is supposed to be for the '18 MY I believe.

Also the 09-14's got new grills in 11 and again in 13 and the FX4's and FX2's got new old style stickers in 12

All '17's are supposed to get auto stop/start on the EcoBoost engines. Otherwise, I think you are correct.

I think it is just part of the a new business strategy to keep models fresh. So it would not surprise me a bit if they start doing the trucks the same way.

And a few more horsepower on the 5.4? LoL... and?
The grilles on the 09-14 are barely indistinguishable, and again, only on certain trim levels.
If you want to play that game, the 04-08 trucks got a slightly redesigned bumper and different fog lights in 2006
These are not changes worth of calling something a "redesign".
So I stand by my statements...
If you want to go really hard core, the 2004 and 2009 XL's had color matched, painted front clips, not the cheap black plastic on 05-08 and 10-14. I was curious to see if they did that again for 2015, but they didn't. Again, not worthy of calling these major changes.
