Thinking of buying 2012

Hey y'all! Looking to buy a 2012. What engine? Looking for longevity. 3.5 seems to make car and driver happy, but will it last to 200+k? Or am I better with the 5.0 or 6.2? Tia

Good luck finding one with a 6.2, and it would be a gas hog.

I have a '12 ecoboost and love it. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I will say sometimes I wish I looked at a '13 so I could get the OEM HIDs without paying through the nose, but at the time I wanted the '12 interior.

We also have a '10 Flex with the 3.5 ecoboost and it has over 100k on it with 0 problems so far.

This thread tracks repair rates, not sure how accurate this is.

You need to take them all out for a drive an choose for yourself. There have been eco owners that have had issues (shocker, it's a new motor!), but there are solutions for the issues and it is actually a very small percentage that see any issues to begin with.

All three motors are built to the same life expectancy spec. Choose what you're happy with.

I have an eco and am very happy with it. I only ended up with mine as it was on the lot with all the other options I was looking for. Once I drove it though, I was sold and glad I got it. My uncle has a new 2015 5.0 with 3.73 gears and it just doesn't have the pep mine does. 6.2's are awesome, but they really do suck the gas. They seem to be hard to find in decent trim unless you are in the market for a limited or Harley edition.

Got news for ya - all 4 engines (3.7, 3.5 EB, 5.0, and 6.2) are technically new motors but are all based on long-standing designs. The V6's are based on the Duratec and the V8's are based on the Modular.
