shift cap delaminating

OK read on here about all these caps on the shifter coming off and/or delaminating. Mine is doing the same. Seems like I'm cutting my fingers every other day cuz that chrome is pretty sharp. After reading on here it seems the only real remedy is to replace the whole shifter. My question is I've seen that they do make leather covers for the vertical portion of the shifter how hard would it be to make a leather cap cover along with the vertical portion? Or is somebody out there already doing it? If so could ya send me their info. I think that would kill twould birds with one stone

My 05 has done it twice...first time all of the chrome around the shifter, and the **** were delamanating...the dealer replaced under warranty...second time out of warranty, the shifter cap peeled...i cut my finger on it...I pried it off and have been running without it for about 2 years now...I was going to peel the rest of the chrome off and paint it...but the chrome only wants to come off on its own terms...tried razor blade, dental type picks...still can't get it all off...

I think covering it in leather is a cool idea, but I am not sure how it would look and fit after...

Good luck!

Buying a new shifter was the original plan but the thought of spending $ 70 doesn't excite me. Looks like going to have to find a leather shop an market these things.

Domenic is still with Tasca, his responsibilities have evolved over the years though. Good guy for sure.
