Confussed and NOT happy with 5.4L
So I recently bought a 2004 Crew Cab FX4. I "thought" I was getting a really good deal on this truck but it turns out its a not so good deal. This truck has a new crate motor installed just before i bought it. The new motor has 1300 miles and is sluggish and boggs down badly, not to mention it seems grossly under powered. The intake control actuator(???) has also been replaced. I took the truck to a shop yesterday and they provided me with a short list of codes from the computer. 5 of the 6 codes pointed to a timing issue but the final codes was the dreaded p2006 intake actuator stuck in closed position. My biggest concern is could the intake control actuator be causing the truck to throw the timing codes also. I would really hate to lose my truck to the shop for a week while they rework the timing issue only to find out it was a faulty new ford intake control actuator or possible the wiring to the actuator. Any advise is greatly appreciated. I have searched and read a lot on the p2006 code but no one has said anything about having the code in conjunction with the timing codes.

not to be that guy but if you are unhappy with it why did you buy it? i mean i know you said good deal but reading what you just wrote someone would have to pay me to take the truck.
anyways, what are you comparing sluggish to? the 5.4 with the 4 speed isnt fast like the newer ones. but ya like A DuB said there should be a warranty. goodluck!

Did the engine run well for a period of time and then start throwing codes; Or did you "buy" the problem?
Check the reputation of the engine installer at the BB. I might have the computer/tune re-flashed with a factory tune. This shouldn't be too expensive and only takes a few minutes. Next I would go after the actuator problem.
Let us know how it turns out.

Update on my issue... BAD GAS... After adding some fuel stabilizer and a fresh tank of premium gas the missing and sluggish engine response has stopped. I also cleared the code on the computer and after driving the truck for over a week the only code I'm getting now is P2195. After running the live data mode on my scanner I found that their is no voltage reading coming from the Bank 1 Sensor 1 O2 sensor. So I am assuming the mixture of a bad O2 sensor and bad gas was the cause of my problems all along.
