you are more likely to lose performance than gain anything. These vehicles aren't like the old days. Ford spends alot of money and time with each part that they utilize.
The cats aren't a restriction on the stock 5.4 3v motor.
If you want a louder truck, get flowmasters...or just run a dumped exhaust.
and it's also illegal
that is why his exhaust guy won't do it. he's looking at a $10,000 fine if ever caught.

It's even illegal at times to put High Flow cats onto a vehicle. You have to prove that the new cats reduce the emissions by the same amount or more.
anything less is not acceptable.
Mustang guys run into this all the time. It's a crappy situation I agree. Guys run High Flow cats to be legal and get performance at the same time...and they can't even pass a simple OBD-II test. Much less the sniffer test
Your truck...your money...your potential fine. but I can guarantee you that you will get nothing but noise from cutting those 2 rear cats off. And the noise you get is pretty crappy IMO. The performance gains will be nothing if you're lucky.

Doesn't change the fact that they are there for a reason and the truck is meant to run with them installed. Not to mention we all breath the air around us, regardless of if your truck has to pass a test or not. I am no enviro-freak, but this is something so simple. All in all, it is a stupid, hack job of a way to gain some "sound" and NO performance. Anyone who knows better will just laugh at you as you go down the road in your crappy sounding truck, looking like an idiot. Becuase thats what you are if you take the cats off of a newer vehicle.

i have a 2006 fx4 and it has 4 cats. 2 pre cats and 2 regular cats. I ran a 3.5 inch catback exhaust. That is PLENTY loud. And you'll keep your power and fuel economy. Cutting your cats will just make it start to run rich. the only way you'll gain power from cutting the cats is if you have your truck tuned for it. Same with cold air intakes and things of that nature.
