New rear brakes at 36K?? Why?
Took the truck to the dealer for an oil change the other day. Came back with less than 3mm brake left in the rear pads. I haven't even done the fronts yet.
Anyone had rear pads wear faster than the fronts?
How long do you think I can make 3mm last?
Truck sits most of the time. Don't pull or haul much.
Seems odd to have the rears so far down when the fronts are still good.

I waited until 60k for the rear on my silver truck with a few trailer pulls, and my red truck has almost 80k on factory rear pads and has never pulled a trailer
Im not sure what original specs are, but i would guess 10 or 11mm when new, so you are at about 25% life remaining. So figure if you made 33k, then youve got atleast another 5k before you need to check them again

previous generations was about a 70/30 split for braking power front/rear
the 2004+ is about a 60/40 split. The rears do alot more work than prior trucks did. It is very common to only get about 30,000 miles from a set of brakes.
it is a 6,000 lb truck after all

The brakes on these trucks are too small, it's simply poor engineering. Our Grand Caravan has poor brakes that need frequent replacement as well. Never had such problems with our Honda or Toyota.
No excuse for such poor brakes in this day and age IMO. Not only is it a hassle to replace the things, but my wheels are always full of brake dust. I'll be replacing with ceramics not so much for performance but to keep the dust down.
I have noticed the rear wheels have more brake dust on them than the fronts and thought that was odd. Now I know why I guess.
