Question Intermittent Buzzing From Steering Column

Does anyone notice a strange intermittent low buzzing sound coming from their steering column area when they come to a stop? You can't hear it with the radio volume up, but I know the sound isn't supposed to be there. Just wondering if anyone else had this.

this is the first I've heard of this particular problem.

does it sound like a vibe from a loose part (in time with the RPM) or is it more like a component within is buzzing on its own?

Very common problem.
More than likely an assembly plant worker has lost another cell phone.

I may have the same problem. It only occurrs when the brake is depressed and the vehicle is in drive. If you put it in park or take foot off brake it goes away. It sounds to me like a vaccuum solenoid or switch in the dash, kind of a random mechanical humming. Hasn't seemed to cause any problems, just haven't gotten around to taking it to the dealer. (This would be my first trip with 13k on the truck). Does this sound like what you are hearing?

Yes, this sounds exactly like it! It's always when I'm waiting at a traffic light or stop sign.

I noticed the same problem on my truck before and after my lift. Although, I can hear the noise while in park without the brake pedal depressed.

My truck has the buzzing/humming sound, too. It seems to come from the firewall area close to the steering column.

I had this exact same problem. I also noticed that when the buzzing sounds happened that my center console gear shift would vibrate in synch with the noise. Anyone else's gear shift do this?

Just a bump on this thread to see if anybody else has had this problem. Not sure it's a problem, just want to know if anybody has had it into their dealer about this and what the fix was.

If we can identify the source of the buzzing/humming sound perhaps we can apply some sound insulation to it. I think it is a component on the firewall. It sounds like a vacuum pump or motor??? Anyone have any ideas?

I wish I knew but everytime I open the hood I can't hear anything. I may have to climb underneath tomorrow to see if I can hear it then...

Buzzing noise

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. Not a problem I guess, I just don't like noises that I can't figure out. Like others, you only hear the buzzing noise, intermittently, while in gear and stopped. Once I shift to park or neutral, it goes away. Possibly coming from transmission?

If anyone gets a response from their dealer, please post it!

Thanks

I have had my truck into the dealer twice for this problem, and it always comes back with "can not duplicate customers concern", even though the service techs have heard it. I'd love to know what the problem is.
