Bought a new F150 yesterday, what is a 6650 GVWR package?
My first Ford F150. It sure handles nice and feels really solid. I got a plain jane work truck with V6, Auto and A/C. It pays to buy on the last day of the month. I named a really aggresive price and walked out after about an hour of fruitless negotiation. The sales manager caught me before I drove off and made the deal better by $1000 so I became a new Ford owner.
Anyway the window sticker mentions preferred equipment package 502A and a couple lines further down is says the truck has "6650# GVWR Package" with no cost. Can anybody tell me exactly what this is compared to the same truck without it? I guess it means the truck is good for 6650 lbs gross weight. Is that more than a truck without it?

I think that's pretty much the stock weight capacity. Either that or its a slight upgrade from the standard weight capacity.
The 8200# is a major weight upgrade that puts you into heavier suspension, tires and 7 lug wheels.
And that 6600# is total weight on the wheels. It is the total of the weight of the truck, all occupants, fuel and then finally cargo. To find out how much you can haul, you need to find out the curb weight of your truck, add your weight and whatever is left is your cargo capacity.
The 4x4 Crew is about 5500# curb weight. So after me and fuel it can probably do 800# safely without voiding the warranty.

Thanks for the replies. The truck came with a 3.55 regular axle if that makes a difference. The first truck I looked at had the same V6 but a $300 limited slip diff (also 3.55) and a $350 trailer towing package. I was starting to run up against my money limit (couldn't get my price) so I switched to the same truck without those two options. I was a little dissapointed because I thought I was getting a truck without towing capability since I couldn't see a hitch like I did with the first truck. Then I read the owner's manual and looked close at the truck and see even my downgraded truck has a built in hitch with the bumper and wiring already on it. So I guess I did the right thing by accident because I don't really need major towing and this one will do 5,000 pounds the way I bought it without any options.

Hey Dale.
W-E-L-C-O-M-E ! !
Congrats on your truck. You've made a wise choice by asking your questions here. This is the best site to have ANY question (I mean ANY question) answered here. This Forum has a bunch of sharp, nice people, and are willing to answer a question or help one solve a problem. Watch out for dzervit (the guy with the Christmas lights)
Hell, last year, I got some help on my VEGTABLE Garden.
Keep in mind to try out the search feature, or you'll get flamed. But, all in all, this place rocks.

Tow package gives you class 4 with the external receiver, tranny cooler and I think 7 pin harness too (not 100% on this)
If you didn't plan to tow, then anythiong that comes up should be handles by a class3. If you are a little uneasy about weight on the bumper, there are hundreds of tow shops that can slap an external receiver on the truck for a few hundred. Again, this can handle just about anything you would plan to tow.
