Pics of new 285/70/17 BFGs

Well, I did it. I broke down this last Saturday and bought a set of 285/70/17 All Terrain T/A KOs.

I apologize for the poor picture quality. I was detailing my truck in the garage and had a lot of crazy lighting to deal with.

A better pic:

The tires were $205 apiece at a local tire shop here in Omaha. The bill came to about $950, which included balancing, new valve stems, old tire disposal fee, etc. plus a front end alignment.

I know exactly what you mean. I went to two fairly large tire stores here locally, neither one knew of their existence. I went into one shop and almost got into a fight with a salesperson. He insisted that these tires didn't exist......oh well, his loss.

Jag,
Hey ,it look's cool. I have 265/70/17 on right now ,but would like to upgrade to the 285 series. I have about 40k on mine right now.

Do you think they look bigger than the 265's ? About how much taller & wider would you guess ?

I am running a Screw 5.4L with the 3.55 gear's. What are you running ? How did effect the power ?

I am running stock wheel's 7.5 that I just bought. The truck came with the 10 spoke style rim's but I bought a set of FX4 rim's for 300.00 and put those on instead. That's alot of money for tire's but in my opinion the BFG's are worth it . They are tough as hell, give great traction & look better than any other tire out there.

Sorry about all the question's,just lookin for info.

They look great !!!

$900 for tires .....**OUCH**!!

I'd wear them out in 2 years. I just can't justify that kind of cash for tires.

this tire size has been out since late 2000, i have them on my ORP 99 f-150 and they are pushing close to 40 thousand miles with a good bit of wear still left...i am about to convert to the Explorer Pro-comp tires due to size limits on the BFG"S,...but still in the thinkin process..........if BFG comes out with a 285 or a 295 series in the 17 in wheel then i will stay with BFG...I love the AT"S i have had AT's on Every vehicle i have ever owned.....just wanted to ad my .02

Jag-those look great on there! I never even knew you could get BFG ATs in that size. They really set your truck off!

I just paid 166.95 per tire for a set of 4 BFG T/A KOs in LT285/75R-16. Total with tax for the set mounted was 716.48. Bought them at a local tire shop. The 265s in the same tire were the same price I think. Sold my set of stock tires for $300 a few hundred miles after I bought the truck and I couldn't be happier with them. This is my second set of BFG ATs. I had a set of 265s on my last 1/2 ton and they wore well and got great traction offroad and in snow.

They definately give the truck a rougher ride, but not objectionably so. There is a tremendous improvement in traction on wet surfaces between the original Goodyears and the BFGs.

Although they are about 3-4% larger in circumference, I cannot detect in noticable loss in power or acceleration.

Okay, so now i'm confused/upset...
So someone initially at BFG said they released the 285/70R17 all-terrain and gave me a part number.
I ordered up the tires at a tire shop and just got my 285 mudders, which i didn't want because i'm already running 305/70R16 MTR's. When i was at the shop they called BFG and asked again about 285/70R17 all-terrains and someone this time said no they were not available.
i don't know what to say or do now!

I know your frustration. I went to three shops before I talked to a salesman that didn't think I was crazy.

BTW, the part # is.....#57974.
