Pics of new 285/70/17 BFGs
Nice! I like them, I almost bought some myself. But instead I purchased the Mud terrrian in that same size. I have put about 12,000miles on mine since i bought them. I think the cost of mine came to about $215.00 per tire that included mount and balanced. I found them at a local shop here in VA. I love them!
i went to my local shop today and Yes the tires are available. they will take 2-3 weeks for me to get.........and i got a price of 191.00 mounted balanced and installed........what a deal and this was for the 285 AT's in the 17'' size ahh btw I live in northeast tenn for those of ya'll wonderin where i could get them...
dang, 900 for tires, im getting some american racing nitros 16 inch chromed for 170 a piece and some 33's pro comp for 134 a piece all together its going to be around 1200 i believe minus my trade in which is going to be 800 or 700, so im paying like 400 for new tires and rims
I just picked up some BFG Mud Terrains in a size 285/70/17 for $187 each minus a $100 instant rebate when you buy 4 from www.4wheelparts.com
Compared to what some local shops were charging, that's a huge bargain. Also picked up my ProComp add-a-leaf and Rancho RS5000's today... going to be a sweet weekend for my truck. When it's all done I'll post some pics.

Jag, I love the look of these tires. Please post your impressions of them after you have run a few miles on them. I am very seriously considering these tires for my next set. BTW, do you have any lift on your truck? How well do they fit into the stock wheelwell , if you are at stock height? Thanks for your input.
No lift, although I have the torsion bars cranked up about 3 turns to level the truck out. No rub on the front valance either.
The tire ride is a little rougher than the Wranglers, but not objectionably so. The wet road traction on these tires are unbelievable, a lot more so than the Wranglers.

I also have just put 285/7017 BFG A/T on my SCrew. Got a deal on them too.....$700 even. Mounted, balanced ready to go. Great tires, but this my third set of BFG A/T's. The others were 265/70/17.
hey, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but any idea why BFG does not list the 285/70R17 size in the All-Terrains on thier web site? My Dad was looking for a 275 or 285 width ATKO to put on his truck, but they said BFG only makes the 17's in 265/70 or 37x12.5 so he bought the 265's. Seems to me that if more people knew they made the 285/70R17 that they would be selling like hotcakes to Ford truck owners with the factory 17" rims, ya know? THose tires would look great on a factory 4x4!
Noel - Nobody knows about the bfg atko 285 17 tires.
You have to make the tire dealer call and really work to find them. Most of the time they don't want to bother and just tell you "it's not available"
I agree that they look great on the 17 inch rims. I love em on my 01 Supercrew.

Very nice!
My stock GY Wranglers have about another 10k miles left if that, so I better start saving my penny's.
Question in regards to the new 285's.........
Any noticeable loss of fuel mileage?
Just wondering.
Thanks
David

I have had 2 sets of BFG 265 70 17 AT's on my previous truck and there was no change is gas mileage going from the GY to the BFG, only a great change for the better in traction!
For my newly purchased truck....
I ordered the tires on a Friday and they were at the tire dealer's the following Monday morning. But.... the dealer I got them from, as well as another I got a price from, both said that these 4 tires I got were the only ones available (to dealers anyway) in the Southeast. In other words, I got them fast, but I wouldn't get another set for quite some time. Both dealers were looking at the same 4 tires in some warehouse when they checked for availability.
As far as gas mileage, I only ran out one tank of gas with the 265 GY's that came on it. (Ordered tires minutes after buying the truck). The low fuel light was lit a few miles before I got to the tire store, and I refilled the tank and checked the mileage at the gas station near the tire store.
With 265's (one tank)------>14.7
With 285's------->12.5 to 13.7 4 tanks different driving.
But...I have not accounted for the larger tire size, which is 3.48101% larger in circumfrence, so I actually travelled 3.4% further than the odometer indicated at each refill.
Sooo....
With 265's ----->14.7mpg
With 285's----12.9 to 14.2mpg (adjusted for tire size)
Not too bad, considering what a better tire the BFG is and how good the larger tires look on the truck. I highly recommend them.
