Buying tires today... need help in picking larger size!

I have the 5.4, 3.73 and factory wheels gears. I'm thinking I can go a bit bigger than the 265/70 R17s Wrangler RTSs that came on my Expy. I'm just looking for a meatier tire to fill the wheel-well a little better. A guy at the Ford dealership said I'd be fine with 275/70s.

Should I go with 275/70s?
Would a 265/75 work better? Does this size exist?
How big can I go before the truck feels sluggish or shows other problems; e.g. rubbing, etc.

By the way, I have to go with GoodYear - the tires on the truck have only 15,000 mile on them and they're cupped baddly. The GoodYear shop is warrantying them - Prorating the cost.

Thanks!!!!!!

Granted, my tires are smaller than yours (I've got the 150 w/ 15" rims...) My local NTB had an entire cross-reference list for larger sizes - IE: the biggest I could put on my rims.

Your tire dealer should have it there for you...

P.S. If Goodyear should decide not to warrant the tire because of the size increase, I put a set of Dunlop Touring LTs (255 70 R15) on about 10k ago - REALLY happy with em... about $145 ea.

I believe the only GoodYear that is larger than what you have is the 275/70/17 (MT/R). (that will fit your rim)

The RT/S is more of a highway tire and the MT/R is more OffRoad.

If you have a 4x4, get the Goodyear MTR's. You can fit either the 285/70 (33x11.50) or the 305/70 (34x12.50) on the stock rims. Both are a little larger than your stock 265/70's (32x10.50).

The guy at the Goodyear store suggested the 275 70 ATS. He said they'll be a bit bigger (265 v. 275) and a little more aggressive.

I like the idea of MTRs... but this truck spends 99.9% of its time on pavement (although I did hit 2 trails in Moab last month!) and I'm afraid of the noise and ride. The Goodyear man said the ATSs are even a bit noisy compared to the RTSs.

Any thoughts on the ATS? I hope these are better than the RTS in rain - I have to shift to Full-time (Auto?) when it rains just to keep the tires from spinning.

Thanks!

Go with the At/s tires. they are good wearing, and aren't very noisy, and from the sounds of it, they'll be more what you need if you don't do much offroading. Plus.. they'll be cheaper than the Mt/r tires.
