need brake info
I need to get new brakes.....i got my tires rotated and the mechanic told me i was running close to getting to the metal.......
i know nothing about brakes and just moved to a new city.....i need some advice as to what i should get done.....
i have a 2000 F150, 5.4 V8, 2WD, 36,000 miles with disc brakes
what else do i need to get done except for new pads....and what type of pads do you recommend......
i have also heard about bearings and rotations/grindings?
how much should this cost me????
i need some knowledge!!!!!! are there any good sites where i can learn more about my truck and how to learn the proper maintenence.

A basic brake job consists of replacing the pads and machining the rotors. Sometimes it is actually cheaper to replace the rotors than to pay the labor for the guy to machine them. The bearings don't need to be replaced unless they are loose or making noise. Depending on what truck you have they have to take the bearings out to remove the rotors, in which case they will repack them with grease and put them back in. Sometimes you may need some new brake hardware or they may have to free up the sliders, but they will tell you what you need before hand. Sometimes they will also recommend that the rear brakes be cleaned, lubed, and adjusted, and that is a good thing to have done. Depending on the vehicle, the shop, and the brand of parts, a brake job will run between $200 and $500.

Give a big parts store like Autozone a call and price out what pads cost for the front end, and new rotors, old rotor grinding, rear pads, rotor cost, etc.
At least then when you go to get your brakes done by a shop you know roughly how much the parts cost is. Get a written estimate so they don't rip you off. Make sure to tell them to call you if any extra work is required.
Always ask to see the old parts that came off the truck. If they can't provide them don't believe their BS line.
