Cheap??
Is ~$125/tire a decent price? I'm running a set of Goodyear Eagle GT II which the salesperson who sold them to me recommended as "a very good tire".
Personally, I think they suck. It has only decent traction on dry days. I'm almost always spinning wheels. On wet days, forget it! I love how I'm able to turn at intersections without having to turn the steering wheel. Just a little gas and..
And on sleety days? (Yes, that does happen in Dallas
) Hah! Better get the hell out of the way! Can you say "truck skating"??
I need some recommendations before shelling out $. And no, I'm not planning on getting any Firestone tires. Thank you.
No General ones either.

i used to be a salesman at circuit city, well, kinda still am, but it is sure funny that every digital camera people look at is "a very good camera for the money" or "what my parents have at home" and also, "what i would reccomend to anyone that wants a good camera"....remember, he is a salesman
Maybe I didn't quite make it clear enough the 1st time around. Perhaps what I was really trying to ask was "How much do YOU spend on your tires, what brand/type, and personal experience with them?"
I feel the same about the Eagle GT II they are decent on dry pavement but on wet roads they suck!! I found some BF Goodrich long trail ta 59.00 a tire plus 18.00 for shipping per tire, thats 77.00 a tire for 275/60/17. I think that is a great deal considering the cheapest i have found them locally is 450.00 mounted and balanced. Total for all four shipped is 308.00 plus local garage will mount and balance for forty dollars so 348.00 total. Everything i have read about these tires is pretty positive, does anyone have these tires i see them on alot of the new ford trucks. To anyone that has these tires do you like them? Give me your opinion positive or negative.
I've been scouting for tires too, and I keep coming back to the Falken Ziex STZ/01's. I completely agree on the GT-II's also. The first time I drove through a rainstorm I thought I was going in the ditch!!
Truckin loved the Ziex's when they did a review on them last year. At Discount Tire I was quoted about $620 for the set with everything included. This was for mount/balance, warranty, etc... etc..... In other words, NO worries!
I'm assuming that you have the 275/60/17's on the sawblade rims? Like these............>,,,,98

I hear everyone saying the eagle 2's arn't good well all i have to say is there sooo much better than stock but then again having 20x9's could affect that. I can't complain really for 130 dollars a pop for 20's on tirerack.com. Anyways i haven't had much experience with tires but they do not seem like that bad tires they have good tread wear. Well anyways just my .02

Man, I need a set of rims in the worst way
A friend of mine had an interesting analogy of eagle II's. "They are pretty much a regular tire that just happens to have a larger hole in the middle." I'm not impressed that much with them at all. They have low traction, and hydroplane like a jet ski, but the ride and handling are okay. Makes me wish my old Yokahamas would fit these 17's
. They were noisy, but they did everything else VERY well.,,,,,98
I just saw Michelin LTX/MS's in a 17" the other day, I wonder if they come in 275/60's?

The Toyo Proxes S/T are really great tires. The best part is the treadwear rating is amazing. I just got a set of 295/45R20's and I love them. They are comparable to all the other sport truck tires out there except they blow everyone else away with a treadwear of 430!
Will have pics up soon.

Any tire when it wears out will give you crappy traction. That's why you get new ones!!
Mitch
Do you really think that the BFG is a crappy tire when it worn beelow 50%? I always thought and was told that they pull even half way decent all the way down to almost bald. I know several truck pullers will only use a new fresh set of BFG AT's and then again some will use slighlty to half worn BFG's and both types of people seem to pull about the same. I think they are great tires but at over 150 apiece for a 16in they are a little pricey.

I had a feeling I would get someone with that statement. I really should have been more specific in the "type" of BFG tire. I've not run the BFG TA/KO so I really can't judge that. For the price, you should be able to run 'em to the cord and still have traction!
I'm really considering those the next time I need tires. Les Schwab is now selling them. Have not checked the prices, but I'm sure they are premium. And from the reviews from this site, I'd say it's a very good tire.
My experience with BFG was with passenger car tires. Remember the old TA radials? Those lasted me maybe 20k and never had good traction IMO. Then I had those Long Trails on my rig when I bought it. Granted, they were 80% worn out, but even with the LS rear, I couldn't get going on wet pavement to get out of my own way! My folks had some BFG tires on their old Chevy Impala at one point. I remember those being an OK tire when new, but Dad got rid of them at about 50% worn. All he ever did was complain about them.
So, maybe not that many experiences with them, but enough to say that I've usually looked the other way when choosing a brand. Now, for TRUCK tires, I see 'em all over the place, so they got to be good to satisfy us picky TRUCK people!

I was just wondering, I was not questioning your judgement or opinion. I feel that they are a great tire but for the money I will go with something else next time. Maybe a Pro Comp or a Cooper Discover ST which both are similar to the BFG in tread design and probably quality. My only dislike is that I personally didn't have the money to go with a lift and bigger BFG's in the start. Oh well live and learn I guess.
I wonder if anyone has tried BFG's Baja series? Haven't heard anything. If they are good enough for Baja desert running then they must be good enough for us "soft core" guys.

Oh, I just figured I should back up what I said from my own experience. It was kind of a harsh statement in the first place.
Yeah, I hear ya on the money deal........ Wish I had more to do what I'd really like to do with my rig....... But, since it's my daily driver, I don't want to do a whole lot to it, but if it was my "toy", it would be something!!
Take Care!
