Exhaust corroding right rear wheel
Has anyone heard of a Ford recall on the exhaust system? I have a '97 F150 that has the exhaust exit located in front of the right rear wheel. The exhaust has caused extreme discoloration on the rim. I've heard that in Northern climates, Ford will relocate the exhaust tip behind the rear wheel and replace the rim if it is discolored.

From what I understand, a TSB was issued about this, not a recall. If you were still under warranty, the tailpipe would probably be replaced with a behind the wheel setup at Fords cost. Since you are probably out of warranty, the replacement would most likely be done at your cost, unless you have a really sympethetic dealer. I still have the in front of the wheel setup and have noticed no problems to date except for the lug nut cap. Mine changes to a greenish gray after about two winters on the truck. It hasn't been a big enough of a deal to worry about it in my case. Good luck.
That happened to my truck. Just before I bought it it had the exhaust relocated to behind the wheels and I believe a new cap as well. All this I think was covered by the dealer, not who I bought the truck from.
Mine is in the same place, and after 114,00, still no corrosion on the wheel, and I have never rotated, it's against my religion to rotate tires`n`wheels. I wonder why some do and some don't?
