All over the road

I purchased a used 98 XL short bed with a set of Generals on the front and a couple of Firestones on the back. Had some bad rain last night and was all over the road. Hit some snow when I got the truck this spring, no traction. These tires have plenty of tread. Considering a set of Kelly 235/70R16 Wild Spirit MPT AquaTread at 82.00 a piece. Do you think this will help. Is there a better option. Looking at lots of snow this winter NE Ohio
thanks

you may have new tires, but the tread pattern makes a difference in the wet and snow. Same with the rubber compound. Firestones are the biggest POS you can buy for tires. Same with goodyears in the wet.

Coopers and BFGs have both been good to me in the wet and snow amoung other places.

The bridgestone tires are really good street tires and excellent in the rain! You may want to look into those. Kind of funny cause the bridgestone and firestone are the same company, but one tire brand is a POS and the other one makes great tires.

nanjam99,

I'd suggest that you spend some time at http://www.tirerack.com

They have just about every tire available for your truck along with photos and reviews from drivers who've used them. If you check the prices, you may find that it will save you money buying them online and having them shipped to you and mounted at the dealer.

If you are going to be driving in the snow, an A/T tire is a good idea. You can also go upto a 255/70/16 without any problems if you want a wider tire.

I purchased a set of Yokohama Geolander A/T's last month that have amazing traction in the rain. I'm really looking forward to the snow this fall now that I have better tires

Tirerack is a great place to do some research and find out what tires are out there in your size. They don't carry a few tires, but they do present a noce wide selection.

I too have gone to the AT tires to help out with winter traction as well as other reasons, but they made a great difference in the snow over the All Season tires.

Many here will trash the Firestone tires at any cance they get. I had Wilderness AT tires on the truck before I replaced them with Bridgestone Dueler AT's. They gave me a decent tire with good all around performance and much better traction in snow than the Goodyear Wrangler RTS ever have. They also wore well and had given me 60,000 miles and had a long way to go. When Ford offered to pay for replacements, who was I to refuse!

I went with the Dueler AT's and have been very happy so far. I also looked at the Yokohama Geolandar AT, but had more recommendations on the Dueler, so thats what I went with. Best of luck!

bridgestone dueler AT is an excellent tire under all road conditions; rain , snow, and importantly . . .ice. many AT tires that are good in snow and mud are crappy on ice because of the big tread blocks. the bridgestone ATs have smaller blocks and they are well siped for grip on ice. they wear well and are quiet. only possible down side, i think they ride a little stiffer than many other tires.
