Angry bigger tires = problems????

My friend is putting 275/70/16 tires on his 2000 F150
that originally came with 235/70/16s.

The dealer refused to do it and said it would mess the
whole truck up, pcm , speedo & all.

My brother went from 245s to 285s & hasn't had a single problem
on his 2001 F150.

What's the scoop????????

Will all hell break loose by going an inch and a half taller & wider?

thanks guys.

Thumbs down Don't go to the dealer............

To get new tires. Yes, there will be a change in the speedo and the truck will feel "different" when taking off from a stop and even cruising. You can get much better tires from the "aftermarket".

Not sure why the dealer "refused" to do this, but it's probably only because they don't want you coming back to them with the above changes to your rig.

Since you have a 2000, the speedo change is done in the computer. 97-98 rigs can just change the VSS gear

I'll not go into all the details for the above changes unless you want me too. There are tons of posts with this info. too.

Welcome to the site!!

In agreement

I'm just agreeing with Mitch. You will feel a difference in your speedometer. State Troopers don't really care that your tires are bigger and your speedo doesn't read right. Something you might want to fix when getting bigger tires. When I get up around 70-75 there is a 5-8mph difference or so my friend's GPS told us. Anyway, good luck with the tires....Meek

Cobra,

Hey I did just that last weekend (got that size of tire) and have yet to see a problem related to the truck. The only thing that went wrong is that at 60 or 65 the rear end shacks but I think its something that Discount Tire did or did not do.
