Will tire mismatch cause problems?

Just got an 04 F150 fx4. 3 of the tires are goodyear wranglers and 1 is a Firestone. Will this cause an issue being different brands?

I think it can be a safety issue due to handling characteristics of the different tires. I doubt any reputable tire shop would install different tires such as you have on your truck.

In fact, if you have 4 matched tires and one suffers a puncture that cannot be repaired (if it's in the sidewall for instance) and there has been a certain level of wear on the other tire on that axle, you will have to replace both tires.

You MAY be looking at replacing all 4 tires, or, if the three Goodyears are new, you may be able to get a 4th Goodyear of the same model and you could use the Firestone as a spare. If you used the Firestone for emergency use only, it would be no different than using the space-saver spare found on many cars.

If they are the exact same size, you can put the mismatched pair on the front axle - they can only be on the rear if it's not limited slip.

I agree too. Also the ABS may not work correctly with diff. tread on tires. Think about what jack said about getting 4 new tires, Your money or your life??? Sell the used tires to someone that needs the same tires on craigs list or here.

I MAY be overly cautious, but I can't help it when I think of all the high speed (75-80 MPH) driving I do, and, at a slower speed (65) with a camping trailer in tow. It just doesn't seem reasonable to be frugal with the only part of a vehicle that keeps you anchored to the roadway, and that is subject to so much abuse.
