Another TPMS Thread

Hi All
I wanted to throw this out for discussion- I have read through numerous threads on here and I'm not saying this wasn't already kicked around here somewhere but I didn't see it...

I have a 2010 SCREW Lariat that is making me insane with Tire Pressure Sensor Fault on starting the truck and that chime... Anyways i bought the TPMS-19 Transmitter (aka 8C2Z-1A203-A) and I attempted to "train" the truck as i had read this would likely solve the issue/clear the error. For those of you familiar, i got it in training mode and it "saw" the driver front but the second stop is the passenger front and it would never "see" it so of course it times out and no progress is made.

I figured my tpms sensor was bad for that tire so i checked the local dealership and they wanted ~$65 each for a new one. Being a cheapskate i did my research and bought online. They arrived this morning via FedEx and I went to see the guys at my favorite local tire place. They removed the bad factory sensor and verified that it was in fact bad as they have a tester and got no response on that one- the four new sensors all tested ok per the tester at the tire place. The original unit that had failed IS a different part number but I saw online in several places that the new part number that i got is said to be compatible.

While we had it apart I asked them to rotate the tires and they put the tire from the RF to the LR making it the last tire to go to in training and this time the attempt still failed on that same tire. The tester at the tire place reads all 4 of my sensors but my truck does not seem to like the new one. Their tester had a cable to go straight into the ECU but it wouldn't let us access any TPMS functions at all-

At the risk of writing a book I had this as the steps to go thru to start training mode.

1. Make sure all doors are open.
2. Make sure key is OFF.
3. Press and release brake pedal.
4. Cycle key from OFF to RUN 3 times, ending in RUN.
5. Press and release brake pedal.
6. Turn key to OFF.
7. Cycle key from OFF to Run 3 times, ending in Run. (The horn will blow indicating system is in training mode)
8. Follow the display on the instrument panel indicating what order to set each wheel by placing the TMPS19 as close to the wheel sensor as possible and pressing the button until the horn blow indicating that wheel is set.
9. After you set the last wheel the instrument panel display will say training complete.

What a convoluted mess right? an alternate way to enter training mode is to 1.) Turn ignition on
2.) Turn 4 way flashers on and Off 3 x
3.) Pick up at line 8 above

Does anyone know if the DE8T-1A180-AA truly is a good match for a 2010?

This suggests that it is http://www.ebay.com/itm/151021801254...84.m1439.l2649

Thanks in advance for any helpful info any of you may have to share.

Seeing that there has not been any activity on this I wanted to post some new info as I hope it may be helpful for somebody else. I spoke to the vendor today from whom I purchased the new sensors. He said that there is a tool that often needs to be used to "reset" the sensor so it can be recognized by my truck. I will follow up with my local tire guys and see if they have heard of that and if their tool will do such a reset or if it is just a feature that their tool does not offer.

I have been researching this online as it has really been bothering me and i expect many others have been dealing with this hassle as well and maybe had trouble resolving it.

I had seen somewhere that after installing a new sensor that your vehicle had to be driven for a while before the new sensor would train? No mileage was stated and I attempted to train last Saturday but it did not work. The truck was likely driven less than 100 miles since the new sensor was installed

I read this thread today http://www.f150forum.com/f38/tpms-wont-reset-82724/ and it suggested that the ignition switch/brake pedal method was the only way to get the vehicle into the proper mode. The alternate quick way using the 4 way flashers (that I posted above) put the truck into training mode ok but the new sensor would not be detected and the process timed out each time (so maybe that's for a different test but it was in the end unsuccessful for me- or maybe there is a specified amount of miles that needs to be driven?).

Today I went through the training (using the long method with the brake/ignition) and the training went off without a hitch. I had driven the truck quite a bit further this past week so i am uncertain if the distance traveled played into having the new sensor be able to train or not. I was pleased to see TRAINING COMPLETE and subsequent starts so far have not shown a TPMS Sensor Fault... we'll see.

That's my hope; there seems to be a lot of confusion out there over TPMS

Yea, some of the reset/training procedures for these vehicles can be very confusing and there are many opportunities to get it wrong. I use the Bartec tool at work and it seems to work very well. Also they have a tech support line that you can call if you are having trouble. I have used them a couple times and the rep will stay on the line with you as long as you need and help guide you through the process.

Glad to hear you have solved the issue, at least for now
