Rim width

I want to get 33x12.5x17 toyo open country m/t on my 05 f-150 stx 2wd with a 2.5" level what would be the smallest rim width I could get that would safely hold these tires? Could I use a 17x9/6x5.5 or would I need to go with a 17x10/6x5.5?

You can use down to a 8" wheel and be fine. And your bolt pattern is 6x135mm not 6x5.5.

this. i did run 12.5s on a factory 7.5 wheel, but i really just didnt like the look of it. a 9 inch wide wheel sounds perfect

You can fit that tire using the stock 17x7.5's. Since you have a 4x2 (with a leveling kit) for an aftermarket wheel, I'd look for an 8 inch wide wheel with 5.5 or 5 inches of backspacing. If you use a 9 inch wide wheel, I think you are gonna need more lift.

Thanks to the help from you guys I now have my new wheels and tires on the way and should be here Friday afternoon I will post pics when I get them on I decided to go with 17x9/6x135mm ballistic jesters wrapped in 295/70r17 nitto trail grapplers. Come to find out toyo owns nitto and the open country m/t are the same tire as the trail grappler even made in the same factory with only slight variations in side wall tread
