Help with rims

Well, will be buying new rims and tires once I get my electrical issues sorted out (see electrical forum) and I thought I knew what I wanted. I'm for sure sold on a 16" rim, I know some people think that is old school, but I'm just not a fan of seeing more metal than rubber. I will be going with a 315-75R16 tire (probably BFG AT/KO) but that's not why I need the advice.

I thought I wanted the 16x10 DC-2 (4.5 bs), but saw the rims on a black silverado yesterday and they look ridiculous with as much chrome as is on those wheels. So here's my dilemma, I really like the stance that a 16x10 can give the truck with how far the wheels stick out, but it looks like options are real limited. I like the pro comp 52 rock crawler but am worried about 4" of bs. Wandell, the wizard of all things tire for the 97-03 MY, told me 4.5" bs is super tight. I want to be able to flex a little still, so am thinking my best bet might be an 8" wide wheel.

So lets get some opinions keeping in mind my truck is black and I want 16" rims that stick out as far as possible (NO SPACERS) but can still do light wheeling on 35s. My gallery is outdated, haven't had the truck out of the shop long enough in the last 5 months to snap any good pics

Specs:
2002 F150, black, 4x4, grey accents have been truck linered black, bumpers are still chrome, 3" PA body lift, Pro Comp long AAL, room to go up about another 1/2" on t bars but will still have about 1" rake

Thanks everyone

i pretty much go against all of the things you dislike as far as wheels and tires. but i will say that a 315 on an 8 inch wheel is not the best idea.

I'm not opposed to chrome wheels on a black truck, I was just disappointed with the look of the DC-2s for the price, at $175 a wheel I had better love them. If a wheel is going to be black and chrome I'd rather see more black. I think your truck (and many others with large rims) looks great, I just want a different look for mine. Thanks for the advise about 8" wheels, I was thinking they might be a little skinny too

I have 8" wide wheels with 315/75r16's on them, and if I did it again I'd want to go to a 10" wide wheel. I like the look of the wider wheel more.

I think your best option is a 16x8 inch wheel with 4.5 or 4 inches of backspacing.

Alright, thanks for the advice, I'll restart my search for wheels with those specs. Like I said just not crazy about the DC-2s on this body style, glad to find some pics before I made the purchase. Not knocking these guys trucks, but they helped with my decision

Really wishing I had the money to lift it up more, I love the look of this truck, with how far his tires stick out but I'm assuming with a 315 tire I'd have to do even more "massaging" of the splashguard if I went with a 16x10 with 4" bs

16x10" -38mm offset ION Alloy 171 wheels w/ 305/70 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs

As been stated before (thanks Wandell) this is the best set-up for a 16" wheel IMO w/ stock suspension.

It did require a bit of trimming/finessing to get the fronts to fit but it wasn't too bad and turned out looking tough

Front wheel rubbing at almost full lock:

Where front wheel rubbing at full lock opposite:

This is the amount of plastic i trimmed & what i used:

NOW FOR THE GOOD PICS

Clearance after trimming:

I also cranked up the T-bars just about 1/2" on each side to help out and make the truck look even from front to back and instead of cutting the plastic inner fender well cover i torched it slightly and used the head of a sledge hammer to "massage" it to contour of the tire to clear:

I still need to clean up the trimmed areas with some sand paper but you guys get the idea.

So far the Duratracs are proving great!

VERY little noise compared to the MTZ's but to be expected.......the main thing is that they look aggressive enough for my taste while being a more highway mannered tire......the icing on the cake is that they are both a sever winter weather tire for my snowboarding trips to Tahoe as well as being load E rated for towing the race car

Yeah, you would have to trim a little more with 35's. Looking at the second and last pics you posted, my 35's on my old Screw didn't rub that bad. Weird.

Narrowed it down

Well, I've narrowed it down

Eagle Alloy 185 16x10 -24 offset or 16x8 -11 os

Ion Alloy 133 16x8 -5 os

Ion Alloy 174 16x8 -5 os

Ion Alloy 182 16x8 -5 os (wonder if there is a replacement for tacky center cap)

MB TKO 16x8.5 -6 os

MB Chaos 5 16x8.5 -6 os

Really leaning toward the 16x10 Eagle, since those were the specs I originally wanted in the DC-2 but was having a tough time finding other sytles in black with those specs. I prefer the spoke look, but the holes are growing on me and I haven't seen any running around my part of NM

Patience is a virtue

Now that it appears my electrical gremlins are worked out, I finally orderd rims/tires. Sadly got a call from the shop yesterday and, well, rather than waiting 6 weeks for Eagle alloy to manufacture the ones I want, I decided to go a different direction. My tires are sitting at the shop already when I was told they couldn't get the 185 series wheels. Apparently there has either been a run on 16x10 wheels in my bolt pattern or everyone is just selling off inventory. Regardless, I'll now be going with American Racing 172 Baja series wheels. Not sure how they will look being polished, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. Worse comes to worse I can have them powdercoated, or just buy the wheels I wanted in 6 weeks.
Should show up sometime around the 15th, I'll post up pics then.
Final decision: 315/75r16 Duratracs on 16x10 AR172 Baja wheels w/ -25 offset
Thanks for the help everyone

Why didn't you go with the ion alloy 174's in a 16x10? They look pretty close to the same as those 185's.

I was worried about the -38 offset. Seems like that's what all the ion 16x10s have. That's what TRIXSNK has on the wheels he bought and I didn't want the headache when I go offroad. I don't do anything too extreme, but at $250ish a tire I don't want those duratracs rubbing a bunch. Yes it's only a 1/2 inch difference, but wanted to be on the cautious side. Who knows, if these fit easily and I decide I want black then I might go to the ions, just wanted to stick with something I knew worked. Since Wandell ran this setup without issues those were the specs I was looking for.
