Pics of my 2003 SCREW 16x10" wheels 305/70 Goodyear Duratracs

Well finally got around to picking up some new heels for the truck after debating for years lol.

Used to have it 2 toned black/beige and tried out a couple different set of tires before getting the new wheel/tire package.

2 tone w/ stock FX4 17" wheels and MT MTZ's (lasted 50K mi. got kinda noisy at the end but great tire overall for a MT had it in dirt and lots of snow mainly in Lake Tahoe):

Then wanted something quiet but regretted the wussy look lol (overall turned out to be a decent tire w/ no noise lasting 50K down to the wear bars and they saw plenty of snow, dirt, and lots of towing of my trailer w/ the Evo on it):

FINALLY after years i got what i've been looking for after having the truck painted all black due to getting keyed by some A-hole!

16x10" -38mm offset ION Alloy 171 wheels w/ 305/70 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs

As been stated before (thanks Wandell) this is the best set-up for a 16" wheel IMO w/ stock suspension.

It did require a bit of trimming/finessing to get the fronts to fit but it wasn't too bad and turned out looking tough

Front wheel rubbing at almost full lock:

Where front wheel rubbing at full lock opposite:

This is the amount of plastic i trimmed & what i used:

Clearance after trimming:

I also cranked up the T-bars just about 1/2" on each side to help out and make the truck look even from front to back and instead of cutting the plastic inner fender well cover i torched it slightly and used the head of a sledge hammer to "massage" it to contour of the tire to clear:

I still need to clean up the trimmed areas with some sand paper but you guys get the idea.

So far the Duratracs are proving great!

VERY little noise compared to the MTZ's but to be expected.......the main thing is that they look aggressive enough for my taste while being a more highway mannered tire......the icing on the cake is that they are both a sever winter weather tire for my snowboarding trips to Tahoe as well as being load E rated for towing the race car

Looks great...looks like a completely different truck. That wheel/tire size set-up is the perfect set up for our body style!! 305 in the duratrac looks huge compared to my MT/R's, but some of that may be from my lift also and the different shape of the tire. Looks great!

You can even add a lift in the future with no need to change tire size!! It'll still look great with a 4" lift.

FYI though... -38 offset does not equal 4.5" backspacing. -38" offset is very close to 4" backspacing. (-38 = 102mm backspacing, or 4.016") Judging by the looks of the tire, compared to what I know I have, I'd say the -38 is the correct number for your wheel...they are out too far to be 4.5" backspacing. Just info.

Thumbs up

man, that looks really good. Today it's almost old school to run 18's and 16's is unthinkable for a lot of people but it looks soooo good. i was surprised by how much trimming for just 305's but as said above, that backspacing makes sense.

also, i'd love to have a fresh coat paint on my 01 but i really wouldn't handle it well if it was because someone keyed it. looks brand new.

Hell yeah man, looks OUTSTANDING!!! I think the 16's with 305's are perfect. I love the extra sidewall vs. an 18 or 20" setup. You have convinced me to go back to the 16's now. Congrats on the new setup!

Makes the truck look 10x's better. I'm not one who normally likes a wheel smaller than 20's, but these look really great on your truck. Great choice in wheel package.

Wow... looks awesome! I need to thank you for this posting. I came online just now to make a new thread asking for help on exactly what your set up is. I'll be copying this exact set up. While I'm at it, would a lift or leveling kit help with the front wheel clearance? If yes what would you recomend?

Simplest option would be to crank the Torsion bars, and blocks.

That's what I thought... I also think if I go with a slightly less wide tire it might help with the rubbing... Goodyear Duratrac 285/75/16 are exactly the same height (32.8") as the 305/70/16 but they are only .75" less wide... Sorry don't want to highjack this thread. Like I said earlier, I came online before just to ask what is the best wheel tire combo for a 02 supercrew and this was the top post, lucky me. I want aggressive with still retaining some miliage. I'm 36 now with an 11 month old lil man so I guess I have to be a little more grown up.

My bad Galaxy you are correct i was told they were the same but did the math myself and it is not.

Glad they came out as far as they did as that's the look i was going for i will edit my first post so that i don't confuse anyone looking :o

I'm all for the larger wheels on the newer trucks especially some of the bad *** diesels i see out there but for something with little to no lift i think the 16" is perfect and keeps the tire costs down that's for sure.

Appreciate the kind words and i got you pm.

If you went with a slightly smaller tire i'm sure it would help with the rubbage with the T-bars cranked up but you may still need to trim a bit off the front plastic but it's really not all that much......it's just plastic and to me is hardly noticeable when looking at the truck when your eyes are drawn to the nice shiny wheels/tires

The 285 is basically same size as teh 285-70-17s I am running. On stock wheels that fit without issue, on teh Helos (17x9 w 4.5 bs) they rubbed a little, requiring minor trimmimg, at stock ride height. If you like teh Dura Tarcs take a look ateh Kelly TSRs. Made by goodyear, very similar, for less coin. I have been very impressed with mine, at 29000 miles, I should get another 20 to 30.
