Lots of people have powder coated wheels and it will last longer than paint. Also, something else that has gotten popular recently is plasti dipping wheels. It won't hold up quite as long, but is a lot cheaper.

I have had a few sets of wheels powder coated and I have never had a problem. I had 2002 F150 4x4 customed out with Black powder coated Lightning wheels.

I have heard some stories about wheels that have failed after powder coating. No one had provided direct experience or proof. It was said that the baking process changed the structural properties of the metal. Take this with the grain of salt.

I would be sure to find a quality shop. It is worth it. Mine looked good for many years and held up to 4 wheeling.
