Arrow 16" or 17"

I'm getting a new truck on Friday-wwwwoooowwwwwhhhhhoooo

I found a 99 f150 off road(moving up to a 4 door w/ a 5.4)-- my question is my old truck has new(6 months old) 265-75-16BFG A/T's with american racing wheels - the new truck has 265-70-17 GY RT/S with stock wheels (needs tires soon-next 8 months) what tire size is better 16-17 cost is no a factor.

Don't you just hate starting over on building the perfect truck!!!

The choice is yours, which look do you like better? You do have a much larger tire size selection with the 16" rims, but the 17" are 0.5" wider. A 265/75R16 has the same tire width and height as a 265/70R17. Will the BFG's help the old truck sell quicker? Toss a coin.

I believe you have less tire choices with the 17" rim and it gets worse mileage if you are going to tow anything. If you keep the 16", you can have larger tires, smaller tires with the 17". I prefer more rubber and choices, so I got 16". Depends on what's important to you.

I decieded to stay with th 17" after this weekend I drove it 1000 miles at 75-80 and got 16.75MPG. With the 16" I never got over 15.

that has nothing to do with the rim, but tire size instead. a 33" tire with 15" rims or 17" rims is the same height, one just ahs more rubber and the other has more rim. difference in mileage could be different size of tires, or maybe different gears, or maybe just different driving habits.

Hey Donate54,
As I was reading, I thought to myself, it doesn't have anything to do with the rim size, it's the overall tire OD that counts. Then I got to your reply. Just so happened you got to it before me as I would have said something along the same lines as you did.

There are probably no less than a dozen reasons why someone's mileage would increase or decrease from one trip to another. I won't even go there because I would almost surely be wrong to speculate.

Hey Daveman,
Your right it dosn't have anything to do w/ the rim size-Its all to do w/ tire size(265-75-16=265-70-17) basicly the same size.

I figer its all about gears, the 98 had 3.55 and I went from a 245-75-16 to a 265-75-16 and the 99 has 265-70-17 and I didn't change them.

Matt

PS
I just got my new BFG AT ko's on last night & the truck looks better than when I started.

those RTSs ride nice on dry pavement, but stink in everything else! I've got the Wrangler ATS on this truck and they are a night and day difference! They grip tenaciously in all weather, and there's just no comparison between the RTS and ATS in sand, mud, and snow! There's a little more road noise on dry pavement, but nothing that isn't hidden by the howling grille guard and wind noise from the sun-roof, all of which is automatically overridden by the speed-sensitive volume control!

I love my truck!
