Brake upgrades for an '02 xlt 4x4

So I want to get a little better stopping. I don't want a big brake kit(i do but don't have 3.5k laying around lol). So what do you guys recommend for better stopping? Rotors? Pads? Fluid change?

Rotors, pads, fluid change; yes! All will give you an improved feel of sorts. However, (and not to get too nit-picky) these will do only that. There are really only two ways to truly increase real, no kidding, measurable braking performance; larger diameter rotors or bigger/better/stronger calipers. Braided steel brake lines would be a third way, but many have debated that one on here as a wash. My experience is lines are a legit performance improvement.

Here's the funny part about brakes. Guys are on here all the time ranting and raving about how their brand new brand X rotors and brand X pads "dramatically" improved the braking performance of their "old, worn out, brakes" with 100,000 miles on them!! Ya don't say?!?! Of course it was dramatic.

Someone needs to do a side by side comparison between brand new stuff and then hoot and hollar about the significant improvement; that might carry a little more credibility.

Take my comments with a grain of salt though as I am still of the opinion the cost for quality pads and rotors is money well spent. Just be realistic about it; don't buy all new stuff in stock form and expect miracles.

I've been working on cars, and now my truck for quite awhile lol. I would love to have a real big brake kit, but like i said i don't have that kind of cash just layin around lol. Since i'm sure it's been covered multiple times, can you point me to a good thread about bigger rotors and the like that are better but won't break the bank.

Here is what I have found through many different sets of brake pads and rotors, I have gotten the best results using EBC rotors and their Greenstuff truck/suv pads along with Castrol GTX LMA brake fluid and stainless steel braided lines. Like galaxy said the only way to get drastically better braking is to spend thousands on a big brake kit.

I have been very pleased with the above setup on my truck.

I agree. I've compared both the EBC GreenStuff/7000's and the infamous Wagner ThermoQuiets back to back. The EBC's are a better pad across the board, but it comes at a price $$$. Only downside is EBC doesn't have a 7000 option for the rear. They have a 6000 series and it's a great pad, but with slightly more dust. I've never contacted them, but I wonder why they don't do that for the rear.

Richard was wrong on one thing though...the best brake fluid is Amsoil!!!! LOL
