BFG KM2 vs Mickey Thompson MTZ vs Firestone Destination MT

I'd like to get 35" tires after I get a decent lift in the next couple months so I'm doing research. All three mentioned would suit any offroading I'll do, and all three look decent, but I'm looking for what might be the best for on-road driving (mpg, noise, wear on drivetrain although I realize they are all very similar). I'm open to other options as well.

I'd like to keep the cost below $1200 for 4 tires, and they will be used for mud and some light crawling applications when I go hunting.

Everyone seems to hate on Destinations, but I used to have some on a 97 F150 and I LOVED them. I have also seen some pretty legit reviews of preference over BFG's.

What does everyone think?

I'm also in the market for rims and just can't decide what looks good. I prefer something that would look good with the chestnut brown/arizona beige KR two tone style...so maybe primarily black rims with a little chrome under $200 (18" x 9" or so). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What is the best way to get some $ for KR rims (17")?

I now realize getting 4 decent tires at $1200 will be tough lol.

Realistically, you know what's going to happen. All three are viable options and all are capable. There will be people that love and hate every one of those tires which never makes your decision easier. Either pick one based off your budget or pick one based on which one looks the best to you and don't look back!

MTZ's I run them on my truck and my jeep. I really like them, the only down side is they tend to run small...

Thanks guys...Galaxy you make a pretty good point. I'll likely look for the best deal. Unfortunately the local places don't seem to carry destinations. I'll make some calls tomorrow and see what's what.

I went with Nitto Grappler MT's on a deal ($295 a peice) 35 x 12.5 x 18 on XD Rockstar the flat black. Cost me $2450 total with everything and the warranty (tires were $310 but he lowered em to $295 to get me the replacement insurance).

If the nitto's only last 10000 miles...so be it I guess. Should last me at least a year.

I know haha. I had heard a lot about them being horrible on the road, but they were $90 cheaper per tire than all the other options, they had them in stock (on sale for a short time), I LOVE the look especially the sides of tires, and I read plenty of reviews of people getting 40k miles or more and that they were reasonably quiet. So overall, I was pretty happy with the choice

I was SET On Fuel OffRoad Wheels but the ones I wanted all the blanks and ones that fit my lugs (so hard to find 5 @ 135) were on backorder, would have taken possibly months to come in, were more pricey, and to be honest with myself I didn't even really know wtf I wanted. The rockstars I got are a pretty solid choice IMO.

for offroad KM2's (of the 3 choices you listed)

I don't know anyone running mickey thompsons on or offroad, from everything i have read online unless you get a screaming deal pass and move on to a different tire.

4 35/1250/17 should not be that hard to get for under $1200. I paid about what doollas paid for 35/1250/18 trail grapplers (1200 OTD)

$1200 for those are a REAL good deal from what I've seen. The tires themselves for me was that, but then I got replacement guarantee for punctures (almost $200), lifetime balance and install or w/e else they rip you on. I was pretty happy though, especially now that I found a legit install for a BDS lift for $2000 OTD!!!

I don't like the Firestones but would have to flip a coin between the KM2's or the MTZ's. Look into the Toyo's as well, they make a nice MT....

Don't know anything about the MTZ and my nephew had some Destinations on a Dodge truck. He really liked the ride but thought the rubber was a little soft and they cupped quickly. Not sure how often he rotated or checked the air pressure which could have been some of his issue.

I've run the KM2's for a couple of years now and really like them off road. For a mud tire they seem to have very good road manners and ride decent. As with any mud tread my mpg's dropped a little coming from the KO's but they look and perform good.
