More Height and Wider Stance

I have a 2000 XLT 4x4 Supercab with stock 17" wheels and want to add another 2-3" of height and a wider stance to it.

Asthestics are important to me and I want to maintain a good 'clearance ratio' between the body and tires.

I'm new at this and have many questions. Would I be better off staying with 17" wheels & slightly larger tires or going to 16" wheels & very large tires? In either case, does someone have suggestions?

Will I need to add suspension/body lift? If so, can simpy adding new shocks give me any lift?

I don't really don't do much offroading, just want to improve the looks.

Cool $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

How much of the above do you want to spend? What's your gear ratio now? Is performance still a consideration?

Shocks won't add any lift.

Going to a taller tire will change the rear gear ratio. If you have a 3.55, I wouldn't go more then 2" taller then what you got now without regearing. I'll guess you have 265/70/17's now. That's basically the same as the 265/75/16's I have. I went up approx. 2" in height from the tires that came on the rig. (235/70/16) The looks is much better and I still have the off the line power I need to tow and haul stuff. You could go to a 285/75/17 at the most with your current gears. Otherwise, it'll be real "bogged" down on starts and hills on the freeway will cause the OD to downshift all the time.

You can go body lift, suspension lift. 16" wheels have more sizes available for them, but the 17's are getting more sizes all the time.

i'll assume you have 265/70r17. There are only 2 larger sizes available to my knowledge. GoodYear 275/70r17 wranglerGSA and ProComp 33x12.50/17. (There may be some swampers or mudders or something like that, but I haven't looked at them at all) The wranglers are only slightly taller, not enough to be worth it plus...they're goodyears and they suck. The ProComps are a little taller, but about 2 inches wider.
I have looked and looked for the past 4 months or so trying to find something like a 295 or so, but not out there...yet.
If you want to go taller with the tire, you will have to go to 16" wheels, or wait for manufacturers to make more sizes in 17"
