wheel newbie....help pls

So I'm thinking of putting some custom wheels and nice tires on my truck. I have a 2007 stx Reg cab 2wd that I'm slowly blacking out so nice black wheels are a must. What do I need to know regarding size besides that I need 6 lugs and am looking for a 17" wheel. I'm looking to run 32s or 33s with my 2" leveling kit...wheel wise I was looking at 17s. What else should u know when picking out rims for my ride?

O and for tires I ve really become a fan of the nitto terra grapplers in a 265/70-17 or possibly a 285/70-17 if I'm feeling ambitious spending wise. From what I've heard the terra grapplers are awesome tires. I've also looked at Yokohama geolander ATS and falken high countries.

Check out the new ATX force (this pic is bright PVD - imagine it in black... Tire Rack has it!) $213 each.

If you keep the backspacing and offset close to stock specs you won't have issues with the 285s even with 2wd. I ran the 285/70/17 terra grapplers on my 4wd and they were good tires, just a little small on mine so I switched to 315/70/17 falken wild peaks, which are also good tires. My wheels are eight inches wide with 5.43 inches bs and a positive 25 offset. Similar to stock. A nine inch wheel with around 6 inches bs and a positive offset will allow largest tire fitment. I have zero rub and didn't trim anything.

I have a 2005 xlt super crew. I'm stock as of right now with 265/70 17. Was wondering if I can run 285/70 without doing a leveling kit. On a side note did you put the black bumpers on? If so where did you get them? Thanks

If 4wd you can fit them without level. I had mine on pre level with no rub. If 2wd you will ned the level if you don't want rub. As for the bumpers, I had chrome bumpers which I sanded down and painted with rustoleum bedliner spray. I would recommend plastidip as it can be peeled off if you don't end up liking it instead of painting. Couple pics pre level and chrome bumpers.

Yeah right on I like that about your bumpers. So my brother in law told me that with a leveling kit I can go as big as 35's. If that's the case than I'm totally down for that. But I know back spacing is going to be a problem, which I still don't fully understand. So may end up saving up more money for some nice wheels.

can i run the 285/70-17 terra graps on my 7.5 oem rims. the rim range says 7.5-9.5 but the measurements for the tire are based on a 8.5 rim.

I have 325/60/18 terra grapplers on my 07 4wd and they rub slightly when turned all the way. Those are 33"

Myself and member cagerattler both have 315/70/17 which is close to 35 without any issue. My specs are above for eight inch wheels and he has nine inch wide wheels, with just over 6 inches bs and +35 offset. Neither of us trimmed or rub.
