ORO-TEK Universal TPMS sensors

I ordered a wheel & tire package with new TPMS sensors and looks like they installed valve stem mo8unted ORO-TEK universal sensors that supposedly work on the F150's (including my 08 Lariat) and also supposedly can be activated and relearned by the same procedures as the stock sensors.

Been to 3 places so far and they havent been able to activate my sensors.

Just wondering if anyone else has had to deal with this type of sensor?
Mine are the ORO-TEK iORO OTI-001

http://www.orotekusa.com/ioro.htm

Havent been to the dealer yet and trying to avoid that as I have no faith in their service dept at all and would probably charge alot anyway.

There have been times we have encountered where after market wheels are just not compatible with TPMS sensors. That may be the case here. Where did you get the wheels and what brand are they? If Tire Rack sells them, we will have information on TPMS compatibility.

I have the ORO-TEC # OSE-7635 in one set of wheels ("XD-Monsters")and I have no problem activating them with the little $20 one button Ford TPMS re-learn transmitter. I think you have the newer version of that sensor (OTI-001). Re-learning shouldn't be a problem. Have you contacted SDWHEELCORP ???

Just an afterthought........They are trying to activate the sensor at the valve stem, and NOT on the opposite side as in the band type sensors..?

Yeah I know ........ Looks like they offer alot of tech support but you have to be a member. I started to register till I realised its for tire distrubutors or businesses and they need the business info. I was tempted to make up a fake business name to try and register ... lol.

What type of programming have you tried yourself? Do you have the ford activation tool? I was thinking about picking one up to try it but holding off on that option right now.

Trying a local Mr Tire this weekend that has the scanner/activation setup.

Rick....I would pick up one of the Ford activation tools..they are pretty cheap at the dealership $20-$30 IIRC. Also they can be found on E-Bay for cheap, that's where I got mine.

Yes, I can get into learn mode but dont have the activation tool.

The ones on ebay i've seen are like $50 or I would have already gotten one.
I'll have to check what they cost at the dealer.

First place I took it to also did my alignment after leveling. they said they couldnt get them activated. not sure if they got it in training mode or not.

2nd place was where they sent me. It was a precision tune down the road. They had the scanner/activation setup but they were never able to get it into training mode. To be honest, I was glad to get them out of my truck because it was obvious they had no clue what they were doing and reading instructions as they went .... lol.

When I got home I was able to get it into training mode myself and called them to let them know and they said bring it back up. That wasnt happening but they said one thing in their manual said to just lower the tire pressure and that will sometimes activate them....but it didnt work.

3rd place was at Mr Tire who also has the scanner/activation setup but when I went there and started to put it in training mode, I realised my light was now out. I had read that after so many key turns it goes out but will return later. It has now returned so will be going back there this weekend or tomorrow.

If they cant get it, I'll swing by my local ford dealer to get an activation tool or see if they will do it cheap or free.

So many things to quote here so i'll read back and sum up:

1. programming, Cage i bought the ford trigger tpms reset tool a while back, and it works to program OEM sensors. its the cute white box with the green button and red led. the same one Sam is talking about, very cheap and can be picked up at dealer or ebay.

2. the programming i have tried is following the steps on the manual cycling the engine on/off and pressing the brake pedal, till the one horn chirp is heard and the system says "TRAIN LF TIRE" after seconds of using the fordtrigger the double horn chirp goes up, followed by the failed process-repeat on the msg center. i also took it to tire kingdom, and they tried doing the same process with my fordtrigger and there tpms training tools, a more bigger and universal looking controller. and yes truck has been put thru the learning process all these times.

3.Sam yes i've put the truck in learn mode and positioned the trigger tool in so many positions next to the valve stem, on the tire on the rim flat on the tire, flat on the rim, pointing at the tire, on the tire, etc etc. after about 30 seconds double horn chirp activates and then after two or three times i give up.

Ford dealer tried to activate mine and were unsuccesful as well. Rimzone will give me a refund if i take the sensors out but i really want this thing to work and not have to risk getting my rims scratched and tires re-balanced after this whole hassle. it is beyond ME and me because i know not everyone is handy with tire maintenance and all but if this was an optional thing on all vehicles i would of never ordered it, since its illegal to disconnect and turn off the system we are all now stuck trying to make this work

Just a couple of things come to mind, you have a different part# for the sensor as I do, don't know if that is an issue or not? I haven't checked mine, but I think there is a battery in that little re-train tool...could be dead, again I'm ???? When in 'training mode' do you get a 'horn chirp' at each wheel at all?? You should if the sensor has taken a re-learn. Other than that I'm not sure what is going on. I know that that little re-learn tool will work on the other oro-tec sensor I mentioned as well as the OEM ones.

when i looked at the oro teck website, there were three types of sensors, the band mounted OEM equipment, then the valve mounted OE replacement (vehicle/make specific), (works like bandmounted) and the one cage rattler and i have, a universal Oe replacement thatworks on many models. i think you have the valve mounted OE replacement ( vehicle specific) and we got the universal

heres the link:http://orotekusa.com/AppGuide.aspx

and my tpms tool is brand new came in the FoMoCo package. i think we've reached a deadend here :/
