need info before i get new wheels for my 07 FX4

has anyone with an FX4 that came with the factory 20" wheels decided to go down in wheel size? and if so, did you have any fitment issues with the smaller wheels? My issue is that i'm not a fan of the 20" wheels and i would like to go with 18s but i've heard alot of conflicting information about wheel fitment, handling, and brake cooling problems. As far as handling goes im not too worried about it but when it comes to the brakes and the fitment i'd rather get the best info before i spend 800 bucks only to have wasted my cash. thanks for the help

You should have no issues at all.

Alot of people do what you want to do and alot more get smaller diameter wheels for winter driving.

I hope so, the main reason i'm concerned is i have heard that the FX4's with 20s also recieved an upgraded brake package therefore the rotors and calipers are larger. i haven't been able to find any truth behind this and i haven't tried to run around measuring other ppls rotors but at this point im about ready too

If the brakes are stock then they should be the same size as any other 04-08 f150, and you can fit as small as a 17" wheel. 18" is a good size because there is a bigger selection of tires and the smaller the wheel, the less the tires cost. Thats one reason I regret getting 20s because the tires are about $50 more for 20s vs 18s.

The 20" wheel up-grade on the 07 was just the wheel and tire...nothing else..no brake up-grade or anything. Look at your spare tire...it's most likely an 18" wheel, mine was. I chucked the 20's first thing I did and put 18" on and never looked back..no problems.

I had the factory 20's on my 06. I picked up the Raptor wheels about a year ago which are 17". All the breaks are the same. You'll be fine with whatever you pick.

Thank you all for the info, it's great to be able to have access to such a large wealth of knowledge.

Ian, did you go with the 315/70/17 BFG all terrain?

I'm running 295/70/17 Terra Grapplers. IMO, it looks perfect.
