Which brake pads and rotors?

I am going to be replacing the rotors and pads on the front of my 04 F150, what is the best bang for the buck set? I was thinking about getting something that is an upgrade over the stock replacements, my truck is used mainly for towing our camper and Bobcat, also for hauling, plus I also run larger tires on the truck.

Like I had said what is the best bang for the buck upgraded set-up that I can get?

I just bought wagner thermoquiet pads (recommended by everyone on this site) and wear ever rotors from Advance for about $200.00 bucks due to the 25% off sale. PLUS Wagner has a rebate deal going on and I will be getting another $30.00 back! Order on line with free shipping or pick up in the store nearest you. It's a great deal. Others on this site told me that our trucks do not need performance rotors for typical use. Rebate offer ends soon so check it out soon. I currently run 33" nit to terra grapplers and I am lifting the truck 6" and putting on 35" ProComp ATs. I tow and haul but nothing too heavy. A small boat and a 5X10 cargo trailer.

I have been doing some research on brake rotors today. I have read both arguments for and against slotted/slotted&dimpled/slotted&drilled vs the plain old blank rotors. At this point I am thinking of doing the Wagner Thermoquiets and a good quality blank rotor.

But after looking at the Thermoquites, there are 3 or 4 different part numbers for the fronts, all are listed as Thermoquite semi-metallic. What part number should I get for the fronts?

The early 04s had a smaller rotor. If you have the mid to later 04, then it is the same as the 05. I rplaced both front and rear and I don't know which was which, but I used MX1083 and MX1012. I'm pretty sure the MX1083 was for the front.

Just put Thermoquites on the 06. Part numbers were MX1012 and MX1083. Both were Semi-Metalic pads.

Look here if you want more pad info...

I ended up ordering rotors and pads from Brakeperformance.com. I went with their premium dimpled/slotted rotors and premium semi-metallic pads. For right now I just ordered the fronts, but in the spring I will probably be ordering the rears.

Very nice. Good purchase. I ran those on my '04, they were a good solid rotor. Water stained/rusted like OEM though and made a hiss during braking.

Thanks! The staining shouldn't be too much of an issue for me, since I only put on 3000-4000 miles a year, it spends most of the time sitting in the garage.

I am planning on doing the rears in the spring. I was going to do them all in the spring, since in 1.5 months the truck will be parked until the snow is gone in late March, but I just couldn't stand the fronts anymore.

Stock rotor with TQ pads. I have 102K on my stock rotors (never turned) and 72K on my TQ pads. The same setup will be going back on the truck.

I got the rotors and pads this week and put them in yesterday. WOW what a difference from what I was use to. Granted my stock rotors where warp, but this set-up feels alot better than the stockers! As you can tell I am very happy and I will be replacing the rears in the spring.
