Brake pad life
Brake pad life
Hey guys I have had my F150 for 2 years and 36k miles. I was wondering how long these pads last. I have seen most pads last less than 30k. I know I have put mostly highway miles but I do drive it daily.
Just thought about it
I just thought about it when I looked into this forum. I usually have to change pads on a car around every 30k, but the truck has not given me any indication yet. Does our trucks have the sqeal things that make annoying noise when you apply the brakes?
Thanks

The OEM pads should last a very long time with conservative driving habits.
Mine lasted till 67,000. That's with an Automatic. Yours should last considerably longer depending on your driving style.
By the way; the OEM pads are not MotorCraft.

AJRagno, are the pads that actually come on the truck the MotorCraft pads? It would seem that OEM would mean that they came on the truck, but I just spoke with a service guy and he said that the OEM ones are premium and don't come stock on the F-150. Maybe they're OEM for the Lightning....
Sapo,
When I had my pads changed the SR asked if I wanted the OEM pads or MotorCraft. He went on to explain that the pads originally installed were not MotorCraft.
I didn't ask who made the OEM pads but he said they were considered a premium pad.Slightly better than the MotorCraft. There certainly could be variations in years or trim but I have to take his word on what he said was the original brake pad.
hmmmm

Mine lasted almost 80,000 miles, and I drive like everyday everywhere is the day's Winston Cup race and I lose the championship if I don't get to the post office first. Guess that's why I had to replace my rotors too.

with 190,000 miles on the ORIGINAL front brake pads...I swear!
I chalk it up to (a) conservative driving style (b) mostly highway miles and (c) manual transmission. Also still has the original water pump, alternator, starter, and clutch, and butns about 1 qt between 4000 mile oil changes. Maybe Ford can make a pretty good truck. Crappy paint jobs in those days, though.

Well my truck has a little over 32,000 miles on it and the pads are still in good shape. My 96 Mustang GT that I traded in for this truck a little over a year and a half ago had 75,000 miles on it with the origanal brake pads on it so it all depends on your driving style and how hard you use your brakes.
I replaced my pads on my 97 lariat at 70,000..They were starting to scrape the wear sensor just enough to hear as I was pulling out of my garage. I put Raybestos premium pads from Pep Boys with no problems. The new pads have approx. 5/16"-3/8" of pad material when new...that might help you to gage how much you have left....The pads cost $45 and take about 1 hour to install if you have no (Murphy's Law) problems...
