Wheel bearings
I was just wondering if anyone here has repacked their own f150's wheel bearings. I have gone through some streams recently and I know they are going to be due soon. If so is it hard? How long did it take? How do I do it? What type of grease should I use? Thanks

Is right about one thing the wheel bearings on the 4wd's are a sealed unit, they 2wd's still use a cheaper repackable bearing. It is not a dealer only item though, I know because I work at a parts store and have scouted out the prices of all sorts of things. Most auto stores should be able to get you one. One warning they are not cheap though. With ABS on the front it's like 250 without it's like 180 per bearing unit.

Not all the 2wd F-150's have repackable bearings. When I had my brakes done last month I asked the service tech what the charge would be to greese the bearings. He explained that in May of '97 (when my truck came off the assembly line) they were still using a sealed unit. Sometime in the summer of '97 they started using repackable bearings.
For owners of '97 4x2's, it's a good idea to check before you try to rip the seal apart
