The recaps you are referring to for semis are done completely different than the Treadwrights. The recaps are just new tread glued onto a bald casing. Treadwright "Vulcanizes" new rubber onto the casing in a mold. They have videos you can watch and it is a pretty cool process

Oh ok I gotcha. I knew that was how they did the semi tires but was unsure of if they did it the same way for car/truck tires. Thanks for clearing it up!

Acutally Michelin uses a double envelope vulcanization process. Which pressurizes the tire from the inside and outside creating a better bond. They also use the same rubber compound as all their new tires.

Companies like Bandag use a gluing process which is why they are cheap.
