new to the tire game

i got the stock 17 fx4 rims on my 2002 f150..

i wanna go to size 35 tires maybe but have clue where to start.

What do you mean? Are you looking for recommendations on some tires? Do you want an AT or MT?

Most people are better off with a quality all terrian tire like the BFG AT KO, Nitto Terra Grappler, Toyo AT, Pro Comp Xtreme AT, Mickey Thompson ATZ or **** Cepek FC II.
Using the OEM Ford 17x7.5 inch wheels you will be able to fit (barely) a 315/70-17 (35x12.50), but they will rub the frame slightly at full steering lock. Personally, I think 33's (like a 305/65-17 or 285/70-17) look better at stock height.
