2001 wheels on 2000 - Center cap problem

OK, I did enough research to see that a 2001 factory wheel with 14mm was fine to run on my truck with 12mm studs since they are hub-centric. (I bought a set of 10 spokes to replace my chrome wheels that were starting to peel.) They look great and run straight and true. The problem is that the center cap will not grab and stay on. I am guessing that this is because either the lug is too narrow or too short. Is that right? If so, I think they made this wheel prior to changing the lug size so I could maybe buy new center caps to fit the 12mm lugs. Does anyone know if there was a 12mm 10 spoke alloy (1999 maybe)? If not, can the studs be changed easily? Is there another work around?

Thanks in advance and I apologize if my search missed finding the answer in a previous thread.
