When are Big Brake Kits required?

Sorry to repeat if this was already discussed but what is the general rule of thumb when big brake kits are needed? Is it based on tire/wheel size or the lift? I have a 6" lift with looking to upgrade to 37" tires on 20" wheels and wondering if its worth the money? Also what are the best brands and prices?

well it would be based on tire/wheel size since they add the most weight. it all depends on what you do, i have 38's on 20x10's with the stock brakes and i stop fine but if you tow heavy loads a lot i wouldn't recomend it. just the other week i was towing a K5 blazer on a trailer and at one stop light i had to quickly get in the turning lane to avoid rear ending a car.

if you dont wanna drop the dough on a big brake kit

aftermarket pads and rotors do help.

i have Hawk pads and power slot rotors , and i've never had a problem stopping my 38's.

aftermarket pads also cut down alot of brake dust.
