Tire Guy Scared Me Away From 33X12.5X20's

I bought 20" rims the other day and went to my tire guy to order some tires. I told him I was going to level 2" so I could go with a bigger tire, 305/55R20, which is a 33X12.5. He went into some long rant about how this size tire would cause ABS failure amongst other things I don't want to happen. Instead I went with 305/50R20, 32X12.5. Any truth to this ABS failure or any other severe issues? Also should I even bother leveling with the 32" tires?

the only time you MIGHT have an issue with ABS is if you put different size tires on the truck. like say mixing factory size tires and 305/55/20s. if bigger tires caused ABS failures, then the literally thousands of trucks on the road with oversize tires would all be crashing daily.

If you can change your order, do yourself a favor and get the 33" and add the level, it will look so much better.

Tell him to change it!
Remember, there is a reason is just a counter guy at a tire store, obviously he doesn't know much of anything.

That's what I thought. The thing is he isn't just a counter guy he is the owner and actually knows his ****. I'll go by Monday too see if I can switch it to the 305/55/20. I already have the level kit coming, and if I level it with a smaller tire, it'll make them look smaller, which I obviously don't want.

Here's the deal. Your tire guy has to deal with hundreds of fitment issues on dozens of different vehicles. He is probably just going by some fitment chart that someone supplied him. He has already proven to you he doesn't know what will and won't fit a 09-10 F-150. The ABS statement really concerns me however. Between this site and FTW, we have trucks with oversized tires ranging from 33 to 54 inches tall and I have never once seen one post on an ABS problem caused by tire size.

Thanks for the clarification. I actually did my homework on this and am actually disappointed that he talked me out of it, when I knew what I was doing. Do you guys think i'll have rubbing or trimming with 20X9's on a 305/55R20 with a 2" level? The rim is 35 mm offset with about 6.38" backspace. I'm a little worried about the tire rubbing on the control arm and all that good stuff inside.

I agree. I think I'd like a little less backspacing but I don't think they will rub any.
