1997 rear brakes locking up

I have a 1997 F150 4WD with rear drum brakes. Recently the rear brakes started locking up, only when the truck has sat overnight or for a long period of time. The first 3 or 4 times hitting the brakes the rear tires would lock up then the problem goes away and the brakes would work fine. I have pulled the wheels and everything looks good, good life left on the shoes and the drums appear fine.

Any ideas on what to check next? Thanks for your help.

Replace the shoes. This was a common problem on your year F-150. The Ranger and Aerostar had same issue. Good luck

I am the orig owner with 187K and have never had this issue until a few monthes ago. I will change the pads though and pray this will do it.
